Clinton's Campaign Manager Steps Down
Clinton's Campaign Manager Steps Down

WASHINGTON - Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton has replaced campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle, naming longtime aide Maggie Williams to the top job.

Solis Doyle announced the shift in an e-mail to the staff on Sunday.

“I have been proud to manage this campaign and prouder still to call Hillary my friend for more than 16 years,” Solis Doyle wrote. “Maggie is a remarkable person and I am confident that she will do a fabulous job.”

The move comes a day after rival Barack Obama swept contests in Washington state, Nebraska, Louisiana.

Not surprising it comes after the illegal campaign contributions.

Campaign aides said Solis Doyle made the decision to leave on her own and was not urged to do so by the former first lady or any other senior member of the team.

I wonder what happened. It is odd that she would suddenly decide to quit at this point in time..arent people in that line of work usually very committed to their candidate?

I would say a change is in order. That's the name of the game. Business. Leave gracefully.

poochee - do you think Doyle was convinced (asked) to step-aside, or do you think she really did step-down without any pressure from Billary? You have to admit it really is strange that a campaign manager of her status would step-down. Then again, Billary is desperate to stop the run Obama has going. I suspect Billary is really feeling the pressure in a big way. Don't you?

Hi val. I just heard on our national news that due to the fact that clinton's campaign is faltering she "demoted" Doyle. That quoted word is not mine but is directly from the news report.

Technically what was written is true. There was no pressure by Hillary, no request to resign. Hillary would never do that, because it would require an affirmative act on her part. She would be seen as taking action in the firing of a long time supporter. Can't have that happen. So what is done is the long time supporter is left out in the cold. The supporter's phone calls are no longer returned, she doesn't get invite to planning meetings, no longer has access to the daily schedule. That is how it's done......a passive/aggressive form of termination.

I suspect she was asked to step down. If I was Hillary and thought someone else would be better for the campaign, I would replace her. Business is business.

But doesn't that telegraph to everyone, voters and the Obama camp, that her campaign is in disarray? That's what I think about what happened...

Only to those hoping it is in disarray. The main thing is to focus on what has to be done to win. And do it. Two days from now something else will be in the news.
