Less wind resistance.
To be honest, we probably should have shut our mouths while the getting was good.. But heck, thats why we got spanked. Didn't know when to shut our sassy mouths.

Boooy, your parents must have been really angry at you. Making them waste a wooden spoon as a specialized tool only for spanking.

It makes us, children... special. =)

Kids revolution, spank our parents as pay back eh

So far........... A few whacks on the rear will get their attention if they don't listen to you. Children can be obstinate. They should be told why they are being spanked.

My mom used one of those orange hot wheel tracks! They left welts! There's 5 of us kids...every time we get together, we still pick on her about it! One of these days, I wouldnt be surprised if she whipped one out to put us in our places!

That same cousin is now about 25 years old. He came over last fall. He acted as if he wanted to see us. He said that his grandmother past-away. The condominium is in a mess. Do you think maybe he was hinting that he wanted help to clean the place up. Well I guess I didn't get it. Must be the stupid farmer in me.

I think that the kid still has two legs and a heart beat.

I remember one time I crawled under the bed and rolled from side to side to escape "the switch". Mom layed down on the floor so she could reach me with the switch. We laughed about that many times after I grew up.

In certain degree's i believe so. Children are abused, in part, because they are unable to defend themselves against stronger and more powerful adults. When we teach a child to 'use your words', we must be careful to follow that advice ourselves. Telling a child that hitting is not acceptable, then hitting that child yourself sends a confusing and opposing message.

It’s saying that spanking teaches kids that it's alright to hit when they're angry. That is something we should not teach our children and it is something that we must not do.
There IS a difference between spanking and BEATING. I've had both, and trust me, there IS a difference. Getting a swat on the behind when you deserve it is different that being choked or whacked unconscious with a yard stick.

Spanking: one or multiple swats on the butt used as a deterrent from repeating an inappropriate behavior.

Beating: unrestrained hitting for any reason.

As far as your saying that it teaches kids that it's OK to hit when angry, for the most part I fail to see how. Whenever I got spankings it was always after a discussion about the behavior, which gave the parents time to become un-mad so that they had restraint. I also always knew that my dad (the one who usually enforced the rules) never intended to truly hurt me. Yes, there are parents out there that just beat their kids without rhyme or reason--but those people aren't using that tool as discipline--those people are just overgrown bullies.

Accusing people who use spanking as a tool to achieve a desired result, with the proper restraint and love, is NOT child abuse. It's kind of like saying someone who has an occasional beer with buddies is a raging alcoholic. There's a book by Stephen Wood(???) and it's about being a dad--I haven't read it (obviously) but my husband has, and there is a section in there about spanking and the proper procedures for it. He says NOT to spank your child if you have anger management issues, have compromised your ability to think clearly (i.e. you are drinking), etc. etc.--it's really common sense stuff. If you can follow common sense guidelines (and there are people who obviously can't) you likely aren't "abusing" your child.

Agreed!

My real mother was an abuser/bully--she quit hitting me when I smacked her back once. I suppose it works, but I don't recommend it. It brought me down to her level and I didn't like the way it felt. My son gets (and will continue to get) spankings for his naughty behavior, but it's ALWAYS going to be a swat on the bottom, and he'll always know that the spanking is because I dislike the BEHAVIOR not because I dislike him. My dad taught me that, and I think it's a good lesson for both parents and kids.

Kids are already revolting--and it's causing embarrassment from their behavior worldwide...and not just embarrassment to their parents.

Well I was mostly beaten as a child.
I think I’ve been spanked some too but a swat on the behind doesn’t nearly burn into your memory as a split lip...
Hmm, the last time I received a beating was…. At age 14, that was when my first pair of glasses broke… and I think I received it because I didn’t know the geography curriculum when my mother wanted to review it with me…
Hmm…. And another incident comes to my mind -- getting beaten because I was afraid to learn to ride my bike without those little wheels that were attached to the back wheel (what are they called anyway?)... I was what, 7 years old at that time...

Beatings are common in our family. My grandma beat my mother and my mother beat me and my brother.…. And sometimes my grandma beat my brother and me too. It’s almost tradition… well, I hope I can break that “tradition”….
