I'll say again, the finger pointing was not solely at the US in the article.

edit: you never struck me as one of the more paranoid US commentators, which is why I picked up on the sweeping nature of your comment

You mean we eat what we produce and what's left over is sold for the highest return? Capitalism................a beech for the third-world poor.

But that quote of mine was at the top of the article
It was the first two sentences............

I can see I'm pissing in the wind here If you can't see what I was getting at by making the point that American patterns of food consumption - as in eating - might just not be the solution the world is seeking, then there are some insight issues and deficits being revealed here

Slack........I'm just calling it as I see it.
The scene here in the US isn't the same as when I joined this forum.
Compared to today, we were flush............. today I think there are practical limits on what the US can accomplish in the world. Practical limits on what can be accomplished internally. too.

I'd go take an aspirin, if it weren't for the high cost of otc meds

Grin and Bare It

I wish I had a solution .
I'll go along with most all, except the MW comment, which IMHO had such a small blip that it wasn't a factor of note and where it was, did not affect the general public........restaurant cost of meals (one of mulder's pet whines), at least in my world, aren't a factor, and I'm going to lose little sleep over a lawyer's meal cost. Most of the poor aren't eating in 5-Star eateries. Besides, any gains the MW gave anyone has gone bye bye under the Bush economic scheme.

No what you can't stand is the shoe is on the other foot when it comes to food production. BTW, add Canada to this little party of over producers. Please explain why the US is required to do anything with its food production to benefit anyone else.

China and India can't produce enough to feed their native population and with the loss of tillable land its going to get worse for them not better. Natural resources belong to the country in which they are found, food production is no different.

Globally the need to survive will create more wars. Food not guns needs to be the solution.

Big prediction. I predicate that in 18 months the current downturn will be a forgotten memory. Unemployment will down, dollar value will increase, imports and consumer spending will be up, the housing market will have stabilized.............and it will all happen no matter who gets friggin elected in November.

I suspect the bottom will be a lot lower if all those un-affordable social programs the Dems want are applied.
