Bias in High School Textbooks under Bush Administration
Give me the lesson without the spin
LA Times article here.

A NJ high school student finds conservative bias in his American government textbook.

Excellent article, thank God there are some kids out there who refuse to be indoctrinated by the religious nuts.

There will always be bias, almost no way around it. What bothers me the most here is that it occurred in a text book. Text book companies should hire multiple authors and have checks and balances between authors and editors to try and minimize the bias, how did false statements make it to print?

Doesn't each school board have the final say in what is allowed in textbooks? Does the local education authority (State, City?) actually review and authorize each and every book?

That would be correct to the extent that school boards decide what is purchased and what isn't. Obviously, a history book that no one buys doesn't stay the history book pushed by the publisher for long.

But who does the actually "censoring" or clearing of the material? I'm sure there are commities that do it and there must be some concrete guidelines. I certainly hope these critical decisions are not made by a small handful of people arbitrarily.

One man's arbitrary is another man's considered decision. Depends on the school board and the size of the school district.

Yeah, that is the crux of this thread, I suppose.

Oh Please! Its a massive right wing conspiracy manged by George Bush (you know the guy they claim is to dumb to tie his shoes but who supposedly can coordinate the actions of about 10,000 school districts)to control the minds of the American youth.

This is another Lotuseclaptrap garbage thread. And also notice all the liberals chiming in accepting what the kids says at face value. Has anyone actually read the textbook? Does it actually say what he claims it says? Is it taken out of context? He claims the text book says the Supreme court won't allow prayer in school (which is correct by the way depending on how you define "allow prayer").

But this is typical of the Moore-Ons here--if its written down on the Internet and its anti-Bush, by God it just has to be accurate! Or I guess that would be "Not By God" its got to be accurate!

Hi Muldie,

There you go again Muldie, resorting to the lowest and weakest form of disagreement - i.e. name calling which is one rung down from ad hominem.

Yes, you really know how to show the mettle of your debating chops - better put your choppers into your mouth before you open it Muldie - the hot air is gettin'g to be too much for ya!

Talking about garbage thread - you da master-baiter there Muldie!
