IMO, the further McClain distances himself from the imagery of Bush, the better his chances for victory.
Bush is an idiot, afterall

Methinks he stands a very good chance of taking the election, all on his own, without mimicking Bush. It has to be said that, other than McCain's support for the war, and baseline economic beliefs, McCain doesn't seem to have much in common with Bush. Methinks this is why hardline conservatives dislike the guy. When Coulter said she'd rather vote Hillary than McCain, I knew this guy was something different. Hopefully, something better.
Finally something I can agree with her on!

Unfortunately, whoever becomes president, and Barack is the worst in this respect, our government is going to grow like it never has before. Big Government is back in fashion, even though you'd think Bush had put a distaste in people's mouth's for that sort of thing.
Ouch! I think you nailed it!

McCain Health Plan Could Mean Higher Tax

By KEVIN SACK and MICHAEL COOPER
Published: May 1, 2008
ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Though Senator John McCain has promised to not raise taxes, his campaign acknowledged Wednesday that the health plan he outlined this week would have the effect of increasing tax payments for some workers, primarily those with high incomes and expensive health plans.

Anyone hear anything about the group that will end up Swift Boating McCain? (By the way, they are a right wing extremist Vet group who were also involved in the Kerry nonsense) They claim the following:

1. He wasn't tortured.
2. The NV called him the Song Bird, because he was so willing to "sing"
3. He got special treatment by the NV.
4. He hugged the guy in charge of the torture brigade a couple of years back.
5. He is at the forefront of stopping the release of debriefing records of former POW's---including himself.

Now I suspect that this is all nonsense (a la the Swift Boaters) but the sick attempt to destroy Kerry might come back to bite someone in the arse.

McCain clarifies remark about oil, Iraq war Well, as least he admits it.
Says he meant the first Gulf conflict involved U.S. energy policy
Mark Leffingwell / Reuters
updated 4:50 p.m. PT, Fri., May. 2, 2008

PHOENIX - Republican John McCain was forced to clarify his comments Friday suggesting the Iraq war involved U.S. reliance on foreign oil. He said he was talking about the first Gulf War and not the current conflict.

At issue was a comment he made at a town hall-style meeting Friday morning in Denver.

"My friends, I will have an energy policy that we will be talking about, which will eliminate our dependence on oil from the Middle East that will prevent us from having ever to send our young men and women into conflict again in the Middle East," McCain said.

Apparently we are here to educate you! The GW I was about Kuwait supposedly stealing oil from Iraq via diagonal drilling. Which I believe was later proved to be true, but we rushed in to save their a$$e$, and paid for by all the other Arab states!

I need some help please.

John McCain has stated he is willing to commit troops to Iraq for 100 years.

The help I need is research based.

Somebody I know said that cost of us being in Iraq for that long is going to exceed the cost of social security. I say no way.

How can I show him that Social Security is going to cost much more over time than us being in Iraq?

To many variables to make a meaningful comparison. You'd have to make certain assumptions both as to Iraq and Social Security, any disagreement on these assumptions means your numbers become debatable.
