#32 | Fears of damage to nuclear reactors
Nuclear facilities in Sichuan may have been damaged by the quake that hit the Chinese province on Monday, France's nuclear watchdog has warned.
The Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety said that nuclear research reactors or facilities used to produce nuclear fuel were located within 100km of the quake's epicenter.
"Given the strong acceleration observed at 70km from the epicentre … it is not possible at this stage to exclude damage to these installations," it said on Tuesday. http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exer...075C342115.htm | | Distinguished Member with 14,212 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 2001 Location: Republic of Texas Experience: Advanced |

#35 | Intel agencies seek help recruiting recent immigrants
McLEAN, VA — The U.S. is its own worst enemy when it comes to the desperately important task of recruiting immigrants as spies, analysts and translators in the war on terror, new Americans are telling intelligence officials. The government's policies raise suspicions and fear in the immigrants' home countries and disturb potential recruits here who might otherwise want to help.
The U.S. knows it needs the help. At the heart of a Friday summit with immigrant groups was a stark reality: The intelligence agencies lack people who can speak the languages that are needed most, like Arabic, Farsi and Pashtu. More importantly, the agencies lack people with the cultural awareness that allows them to grasp the nuances embedded in dialect, body language and even street graffiti. http://www.usatoday.com/news/washing...cruiting_N.htm | | Distinguished Member with 66,213 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: California Experience: Intermediate |

#36 | updated 11:51 a.m. EDT, Fri May 16, 2008 White valedictorian: A first for historically black Morehouse
By Dana Rosenblatt and Don Lemon
CNN Story Highlights
Joshua Packwood, 22, will become first white valedictorian of Morehouse College
He turned down Ivy League scholarship to study African-American studies
Throughout his life, Packwood always gravitated toward the black experience
Packwood: "I don't think ethnicity makes the difference; it's what's in his heart"
ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Joshua Packwood knows what it's like to be a minority.
This weekend he'll be the first white valedictorian to graduate from the historically black, all male Morehouse College in the school's 141-year history.
Morehouse, in Atlanta, Georgia, is one the nation's most prestigious universities of its kind. For more than a century, the school has prided itself on personifying the dream of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., one of the school's most notable alums, by producing "Morehouse Men" - intelligent and successful black leaders. http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/05/16/whi...ian/index.html | | Community Moderator with 25,430 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2003 Location: Eugene, Oregon Experience: Still kickin' |

(Long read...but..) | 68, this isn't a poke at you but this story has been posted here at least 3 times that I'm aware of. Its nothing new, ask Stoner. What they don't tell you is that after the war Bush was paid in the neighborhood of a 100 grand ( a lot back then) for being forced to surrender his interest. In those days large lenders (such as Bush's bank) required a seat upon the board of directors (that doesn't happen now because of possible personal liability). They had the seat, not to manage the business of the corporation, but to look after the loan and its repayment.

#44 | More major aftershocks likely in China
BEIJING, May 20 (UPI) -- China's Sichuan province Tuesday faced a threat of an aftershock measuring up to 7 on the Richter scale, one week after a massive earthquake in the region.
The seismological bureau in Chengdu said a 6 to 7 Richter aftershock could rock the Wenchuan epicenter area and urged the local government and people to be prepared for emergencies, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
The official estimate of the death toll from the May 12 earthquake stood at 34,073 as of noon Monday and the number of injured was 245,108. China has mounted a massive relief effort which includes tens of thousands of rescue teams assisted by more than 110,000 people, including police officers and soldiers. http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Top_New...in_china/6865/ | | Distinguished Member with 66,213 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: California Experience: Intermediate |
