#64 | Thanks Wino that's one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about me
I wish I could say it's just "them", but as Doug Thompson says, to paraphrase, all politicians are measured by the same scale. I find most of them wanting. At least at a national level.
In most cases, I feel they should be found guilty, until proven innocent. | | Community Moderator with 25,428 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2003 Location: Eugene, Oregon Experience: Still kickin' |

#67 | Wow, Roberts and Alito went for this: Bias rulings protect workers, respect past
WASHINGTON — Federal laws barring race and age discrimination also cover retaliation faced by individuals who file bias claims, the Supreme Court ruled Tuesday in two significant victories for workers.
By votes of 7-2 and 6-3, the majority emphasized that it was following past Supreme Court decisions that interpreted civil rights laws to cover retaliation even when the statutes did not specifically prevent demotions or other adverse actions after a person filed a claim.
The decisions, which offer protection to workers who might be afraid to complain about discrimination, do not broadly change the landscape of employment law.
Yet they are an intriguing development for a court that last term curtailed precedents — including on abortion rights and campaign financing — and showed it would narrowly interpret anti-bias law. With a month left in its second full term, the court under Chief Justice John Roberts defies sweeping predictions. http://www.usatoday.com/news/washing...tus-race_N.htm | | Community Moderator with 25,428 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2003 Location: Eugene, Oregon Experience: Still kickin' |

#70 | Wisconsin Approves Great Lakes Compact
Madison- With the signature of Governor Doyle today, Wisconsin approves the Great Lakes Compact, an
agreement between eight state governors and two Canadian provinces not to divert water outside of the Great
Lakes Region.
“The Great Lakes provide Wisconsin residents with abundant recreational opportunities, they support strong
industry and foster tourism,” said Melissa Malott, Water Program Director at Clean Wisconsin. “The need
for their protection is evident, and we applaud the leadership of Governor Doyle, Senator Miller and
Representative Gunderson in taking an important step toward ensuring clean and bountiful Great Lakes exist
for future generations to enjoy.”
The Great Lakes contain nearly one-fifth of the world’s fresh surface water supply. With populated arid and
drought-stricken regions seeking alternatives to supplement their local water supply, many feared the Great
Lakes would become an emergency reservoir. http://www.wisbusiness.com/index.iml?Article=127124 | | Moderator - Gone, but never forgotten with 48,307 posts. | | Join Date: Jun 2001 Location: Great White North (WI) Experience: Getting somewhere I hope |

The current legislation pending approval is gonna screw many businesses unnecessarily. It takes all of the parties to agree to the compact which is not a slam dunk. The only reason they are doing this is to hope to maintain autonomy from the feds. As is classic this is being rushed into with little consideration of the cause and effects of what is proposed.. | | Community Moderator with 25,428 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2003 Location: Eugene, Oregon Experience: Still kickin' |
