You are right but it is the government over there that is politicizing it. I find it extremely frustrating and enraging to see people suffering and dying because of some third world banana republic dictatorship that cares less about their people than we do.

You do know that MANY/MOST Govts could care less about their people .
Good reason to keep them in fear . >f

LOL---Did you hear that the Republican Convention chairman had to quit the McCain campaign because he represented the Junta in Mynamar as a lobbyist----More of the straight talk express! I mean the only thing I hear form the wing today is that we are in Iraq to help save the lives of the poor Iraqi people----I mean what about the poor people of Burma.

The Burmese leaders are more interested in securing their own power than helping the survivors of Cyclone Nargis:

A snippet to show how "legitimate" the referendum to keep the military in power is:
Quote:
Few Burmese have been able to read it. The charter only went on sale a month before the referendum, at a price most Burmese cannot afford.

Criticising the referendum is a crime punishable by three years in jail. Those few activists brave enough to campaign for a no vote have been jailed or beaten up by pro-government thugs.

Will the next generation of Burmese have a memory of these times that places all prosperous nations just standing by as relatives and friends starved because we wouldn't cross a border into a corrupt governments political sanctuary?

No, not blaming anything on Bush, or making any sort of statement about American standards, post-Iraq. Just juxtaposing the two situations, and wishing the hand wringing of western politicians in the face of their impotence was backed up with the same claimed moral fervour they showed in the 'humanitarian intervention' in Iraq

Baptists mobilize resources for Myanmar
Baptists from North America, Europe and the Asia/Pacific region are mobilizing personnel and resources to assist victims of a devastating cyclone and its resulting flooding in Myanmar.
Baptist World Alliance

Baptist World Aid (BWAid), the relief and development arm of the Baptist World Alliance (BWA), has pledged US$50,000 for relief assistance and is coordinating relief efforts with Baptists around the world.

Hungarian Baptist Aid has flown a team into Bangkok, Thailand, and is awaiting clearance to enter Myanmar. This team, which is expected to be joined by another small group from Australia, will assess the needs on the ground and contact BWAid via satellite phone to report.

Baptists in Norway, Sweden, Canada and Britain have pledged their assistance. Baptists in Virginia and North Carolina in the United States are readying teams to enter Myanmar, if permitted.

Three national conventions in the United States, American Baptist Churches USA, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and the Baptist General Conference (BGC) are putting plans in place to respond. “We will be responding to this request. Funds will be forwarded to help,” BGC said in response to the appeal put out by BWAid for contributions to its Emergency Response Fund.
