That is interesting that one child is a good student while the other a truant. I did not read the article but I am gonna guess that the students have different mothers. If both parents are not on the same page then it is a problem with kids involved in divorces. My wife sees it all the time at school. My kids would not have been as good academically if it were not for my wife. She worked at the school and knew everything going on. Parental involvement determines how a child will do most of the time. I have always been involved but with my work never would have had the time to be able to accomplish what my wife was able to.

Judge Frees Ohio Dad Jailed for Daughter’s Truancy

.....

He is among 11 Butler County parents jailed last year in such cases, 10 of whom were mothers.

So this was not an isolated case, There were ten others. I imagine it was well advertised that parents can be jailed. I would imagine either state law allows this, and by local decision it was enforced.

Jail em I say.

IIf this is the type of public policy we want our policy makers to develop, then so be it. These people are wrong, they should have known the consequences for their behavior and they did not change their behavior. Jail em.

you forgot to sterilize the parents and the kids who are truant. can't let those kids pass on the same flawed character trait to any of their spawn.

That's silly, Evolution is a myth- the Bible proved it.

So if your child decides to skip school and you find out about it, you ground your child and get in contact with the school to let them no it will not happen again.

Your child does it again, you ground your child and spank your child, then get in contact with the school to let them know it will not happen again.

Your child decides to skip school for the third time. Maybe you ground and spank them again, maybe even ask the school for advice that they give you and you use...but low and behold.

Your child continues to be truant. You try just about everything, from therapy to the juvenile court system, to no avail. So one day the authorities come to pick you up from your job and haul you off to prison for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Something is wrong with that picture.

Everything you just said is right on.
When I was 16 I decided I needed no school. My mom, single parent with 4 boys, me the
oldest, walked me to school and to my room. I beat her home. She walked me to school
again and to the room. I beat her home. What could she do? What could anyone do?
One could quit school at 16 then. But I wised up on my own and went back and
graduated early.
I had many experiences with my children and them with theirs. It happens. It's life.
One can not control everything. If the best is done, what more can be asked?

Hopefully they stay in state and don't damage the rest of the gene pool.
