I still think Palin should have quietly gone back to her job, ignored the press and the Reps that were throwing her under the bus. She could have spent wasted time on preparing herself for the future. Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) announced this afternoon she will resign from office on July 26 and return to private life, a stunning decision by last year's Republican vice presidential candidate to leave office before the end of her first term.
Palin, 45, is a major star in the GOP and is seen as a leading candidate for the party's presidential nomination in 2012. Her decision not to run for reelection in 2010 and to leave office imminently came as a shock to Republican strategists today. "We've seen a lot of nutty behavior from governors and Republican leaders in the last three months, but this one is at the top of that," said John Weaver, a longtime friend and confidant of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.)

Despite how I feel about the woman, meaning I feel the democrats, some republicans and the media went way beyond the normal spectrum of lies, cheating and disrespecting the woman and her family, I still feel she was elected by the people of Alaska to do a job and she knew what she was getting into when she decided to run.
She should have stuck it through. | | Distinguished Member with 66,213 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: California Experience: Intermediate |

#716 | The comedians are warming up!
July 3, 2009 Comedians Mourn Palin's Resignation
Candlelight Vigils Held
Moments after Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin announced her resignation from office, comedians from coast to coast held candlelight vigils to mourn what one comic called "a devastating loss."
"To say that we are heartbroken is a massive understatement," said Shecky Sheinbaum, a regular headliner at Cincinnati's Laugh Hut. "I feel like the chicken crossing the road has been run over by a truck before it gets to the other side."
Mr. Sheinbaum echoed the words of many comics when he said "the world of comedy has lost one of its greatest targets."
"We have gone though a rough couple of weeks," he said. "First Michael Jackson, now this."

#717 | Health director says she was forced out
Wooley's boss says her 'personal values' didn'

One of the state's top public health officials says she was forced out of office because Gov. Sarah Palin felt she wasn't in step on social issues.
Beverly Wooley, who has worked more than 20 years in public health in Alaska, most of it with the municipality of Anchorage, ended her stint as state public health director on Wednesday.
She's the second top health official to leave within days. The state's chief medical officer, Jay Butler, left in late June after declining to take on Wooley's job along with his own. He now is in Atlanta, overseeing a U.S. Centers for Disease Control task force on a vaccine to protect against the H1N1 flu virus. http://www.adn.com/palin/story/852044.html | | Senior Member with 449 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2006 Experience: Between Vast & Half-Vast |

#718 | This link contains the full transcript of Sarah's speech. Partisan issues aside, this is just about the most amazing, contradictory mass of crap I've ever read. Some excerpts with commentary added:
"Hi Alaska, I appreciate speaking directly TO you, the people I serve, as your Governor.
People who know me know that besides faith and family, nothing's more important to me than our beloved Alaska. Serving her people is the greatest honor I could imagine." Nevertheless, I'm bailing out of the job.
"We took government out of the dairy business and put it back into private-sector hands – where it should be." Even though I fought it tooth and nail, fired a bunch of officials who opposed me, lost a bunch of state money and then reversed myself.
"We broke ground on the new prison."
"If I have learned one thing: LIFE is about choices! " I just don't support choice.
"Life is too short to compromise time and resources... it may be tempting and more comfortable to just keep your head down, plod along, and appease those who demand: "Sit down and shut up", but that's the worthless, easy path; that's a quitter's way out. I should know, because I'm quitting.
"I WILL support others who seek to serve, in or out of office, for the RIGHT reasons, and I don't care what party they're in or no party at all. Inside Alaska – or Outside Alaska.
But I won’t do it from the Governor’s desk.
I've never believed that I, nor anyone else, needs a title to do this - to make a difference... to HELP people." That's why I've never sought public office and have no plans to run for public office in the future.
"I do not want to disappoint anyone with my decision; all I can ask is that you TRUST me with this decision – but it’s no more “politics as usual”." Sure, I said I wouldn't accept a Republican nomination for national office while serving as governor; and I lied. But you can trust me that I'm not bailing because I can't take the heat or because I still have personal ambitions at the national level.
"Um, by the way, sure wish folks could ever, ever understand that we ALL could learn so much from someone like Trig - I know he needs me, but I need him even more... what a child can offer to set priorities RIGHT – that time is precious... the world needs more "Trigs", not fewer." They vote Republican.
"First things first: as Governor, I love my job and I love Alaska. It hurts to make this choice but I am doing what’s best for Alaska."
No doubt.
"My decision was also fortified during this most recent trip to Kosovo and Landstuhl, to visit our wounded soldiers overseas, those who sacrifice themselves in war for OUR freedom and security." OK, Kosovo is Clinton's war and Republicans bitterly opposed it, but as a private citizen with no political ambitions, I feel the pain of all our wounded G.I.s.
"And it is my promise to you that I will always be standing by, ready to assist. We have a good, positive agenda for Alaska." Unless it once again becomes personally or politically inconvenient.

#719 | nice post Snaggy
I would not worry about her
She will get a tv show
She did what likely was the politically correct thing to do since she did not want to try to get re elected. This should give the Lt. Gov a leg up on the competition.
Had Clinton resigned his boy toy Gore probably would have enjoyed the same benefits. And would have likely been elected and can you imagine how things would be different.
I did not mean anything by the boy toy comment by the way. It just rhymed | | Senior Member with 449 posts. | | Join Date: Sep 2006 Experience: Between Vast & Half-Vast |
