Software, no. Multimedia, absolutely. As in bits of music I already have but cannot be arsed to dig out the vinyl.

Is that "stealing"? Apparently.

been there, quite a few times actually. That's different in that they OFFER their software for free, as opposed to illegally downloading it.

IMO, anything that is meant to be for sale and instead is downloaded and cracked for free is stealing, plain and simple.

I've quite literally played records until their grooves were worn smooth. Then I went out and bought the album again.

Oddly enough, I do the same with my computer when it breaks. Or my car, my dishwasher, my clothes when they tear, any book that may be damaged thanks to monkeytwit, et al.

But the point is Valis you have paid for the cd once
Now its not my fault that trying to change the cd in the car results in them being dropped on the floor

If only they made them so they last

I also paid for the shirt once, the book once; doesn't mean that just because it got destroyed I can waltz in and a get a new one for free.

caveat emptor.

All downloadable programs and apps I've ever looked at on software companies t'interweb sites offer a free trial option, so the excuse of downloading to try it out doesn't really hold water.

When it comes to multimedia, ten minutes looking through btjunkie suggests that as well as being semi-literate headcases, a large proportion of net users have few principles regarding copyright.

An interesting dilemma is posed by the new Metallica album; the cd version of which is apparently unlistenable to anyone with decent audio equipment due to the sonic/frequency compression used in the mastering process to make the cd as loud as possible. Apparently the tracks on the Guitar Hero release are not compressed, consequently sounding much better and leading to the "release" of this version in high bitrate mp3 and FLAC versions on the torrent sites. A shame this should happen to the band who did so much towards the downfall of napster, but serves them right for sanctioning a substandard retail product - in my opinion of course

Good day Valis how are you doing?
How is the "firetruck"? Or is he back to "Supreme Galactic Overlord"?
Any way, I saw BM's point as nobody ever said records, your car, a book or almost anything I can think of will last "forever" I have a drill, a Thor, and on it it says, " Won't burn out", and you know what, the thing is older almost then me and it still works perfectly. When CD's came out oh the hype about how crisp and clear they sounded and how the would last forever. I felt jipped. That's not to say I am going to go out and steal music to make up the difference...OK so the idea did cross my mind once....twice

I voted No, but might in the future. I don't have any intentions of joining the Dark Side, but I would hate to say never, and something happen.

Now... if the poll includes music, then my answer is iffy. I downloaded quite a bit from Morpheus right before the Supreme Court decision.

Now, if I want a song I go to ITunes. I get the exact song I want, they get paid, and everyone should be happy.

nope, he's still aiming for Supreme Galactic Overlord....thanks for asking, btw....

little monkeytwit.....lately we've taken to pretend karate, and dammit, but that kid is fast, and needs to have his fingernails cut off, preferably at the elbow.....I look like I shaved with a blender, and one of my ears has a nice half-moon taken out of it.....

Nothing lasts forever. Nothing. That drill is a good example; when I bought a very nice Craftsman (insert trademark symbol here) 15 years ago, and used the crap out of it until about 2 weeks after we moved into our house in 2k3, it never once crossed my mind to return it and demand a new one. Ditto for the records that I've, again, literally worn smooth. Ditto for the cd's that have either become scratched or monkeytwit got hold of and used them to sand the driveway with.

Things wear out. I've got a set of golf clubs that off a no-questions asked life-time guarantee. I had my 6 and 9 iron busted during a flight to Hawaii one year, about 5 years after I bought them, and called them up, and they said send them in. But the fact is, THEY offer a 'no questions asked, lifetime guarantee'. In the case of the drill, there was no guarantee, and I'd more than gotten my money's worth out of it, so it was time to upgrade.

Like when my television I bought in 1986 died in 2k5.....reckoned I had got my money's worth, and so went and bought a new one. Didn't expect to get one for free.

Not only is it the principle of the matter, it's also plain common sense.

AND, since you brought it up, I'll go to my grave knowing (not thinking, but knowing, mind you) that a good turntable setup will smoke anything digital, sound-wise.....
