When's your birfday?

Failing that, audio CD rental from the library = £1 per week.

I believe so, yes.....I think it's the 'redistribution' part that gets you in hot water.

in that case, it's illegal. I'm not entirely clear on that issue, as I used to record my albums all the time, and that seemed to be legal, so I dunno. Either way, when I buy a cd, it generally ends up on my pc rather quickly, as I do a lot of work in front of said pc, and prefer to have a playlist of 15k songs as opposed to 12.

No-one is entirely clear on that issue.

making a personal copy of a CD that you bought legitimately may not be a legal right, but it "won't usually raise concerns," as long as you don't give away the music or lend it to anyone.

RIAA speaks with forked tongue.

ETA: RIAA et al. says CD ripping, backups not fair use

yup....however, there can frequently be unexpected side effects to the Death Tickle, if used improperly. For instance, our entertainment center is comprised of wood and right angles; that's about the gist of it.

monkeyboy was charging (he literally did the 'come here' wave from 'the matrix' karate scene, little jerk ), and I hit him with the Ancient Finger To Armpit followed by the Flying Dragon Hand to Navel Tickling Motion, the first of which stopped him dead in his tracks, the second of which caused him to fold in half until forehead impacted on of the numerous right angles on the aforementioned entertainment center.

Luckily, wife was away, so I didn't have to explain the screaming, only the bruise.

told her it was a tennis racquet, and that he got off lightly, at which point HE utlized the Flying Headbutt of Doom, which involves the part of anatomy that, I believe, you alluded to.....

Yeah, I trust the RIAA about as far as I did the PRMC, which, ironically enough, is about as far as I could toss the tour bus of Spinal Tap (unloaded).

Fellow UK residents: what do you feel about downloading American TV shows?

It is illegal, no question, and cult shows such as Generation Kill and the stupendously wonderful The Wire (I'm still in mourning: Omar, Jimmy, Bunk, Marlo, Stringer etc - we'll never see your like again ) eventually find their way here, but only to satellite/cable networks like Murdoch's FX. My problem is:
a) I live in the country, so more chance of Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman knocking at the door for a down-and-dirty threesome than my fibre optic connection to the cable network;
b) I live in a grade 2 listed house so a satellite dish is verboten by the jobsworths.

So a moral dilemma. Or perhaps not.
