Grade 1 is for your stately homes and Elizabethan mansions and palaces etc; Grade 2, like my crib, is lower but means I can't make changes to the outside of the house without incurring the wrath of the guardians of history. No great pain really - and has a certain kudos - but means I can't get HDTV or the satellite channels.

Update
The RIAA has since rubbished the Washington Post story as "wrong".
In a statement, the organisation said:"As numerous commentators have since discovered after taking the time to read our brief, the record companies did not allege that ripping a lawfully acquired CD to a computer or transferring a copy to an mp3 player is infringement.
"This case is about the illegal distribution of copyrighted songs on a peer-to-peer network, not making copies of legally acquired music for personal use."

What if I download an American TV show from an authorised distributor?

To address your moral "dilemma" of taking something illegally or going without, I suppose that depends upon your morals, but if you start applying "I can't get it legally, so getting it illegally is OK" to all and sundry, where do you stop?
"I can't get it legally because I'm too poor to buy it"
"I can't get it legally because it is illegal to own"
"I can't get it legally because the rights holder does not want it distributed"

And none of your categories fit my situation | Virgin is one of several examples of being able to download USA TV shows legally, in contrast to your statement. It was in no way meant to be a recommendation. | | Distinguished Member with 7,144 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: The void AKA edge of the Fens Experience: I bent my wookie :( |

"It must be true then!" | The bit that got me was v saying "I also paid for the shirt once, the book once; doesn't mean that just because it got destroyed I can waltz in and a get a new one for free."
Fairly swiftly followed by "when I buy a cd, it generally ends up on my pc rather quickly" -- thereby minimising the chances of loss by destruction.
