Fairly swiftly followed by "when I buy a cd, it generally ends up on my pc rather quickly" -- thereby minimising the chances of loss by destruction. | true; that having been said, I do have all the cd's in my car, and listen to them on the road, as here in houston we believe in 'music free radio', apparently....cd breaks, I do NOT burn a new one, I go buy one......and yes, that's happened more than once, as my car does not have a cd player, so I have to use a portable type......
just a matter of opinion.......still, I wonder if it's illegal to listen to those tapes I made off of my vinyl; still got those, as my car does have a tape player, and for someone of the digital age, I have a surprisingly large amount of tapes laying around....

valis's reply?
"It must be true then!" | Check what RIAA itself says, if you prefer.
"If you make unauthorized copies of copyrighted music recordings, you’re stealing."
The content of bought CDs is (generally) copyrighted. Copying without first seeking the permission of the copyright holder = unauthorised = "illegal".
The RIAA will push this, if and when it can. ( )

I would suspect the same applies for vinyl xfer, that the key would be "authorised". For copying to be authorised, you'd have to request permission first, which would doubtless be denied.
Still, you're in Texas. If the RIAA comes a'knockin', you can just shoot 'em.

If you are in debt to your eyeballs, they can't go after your vehicles, your house, your wages, nada. And they don't screw around when it comes to eliminating the bad members of society.
As one comic put it, other states are working to abolish the death penalty; down here, we're putting in an express lane.

IMO, anything that is meant to be for sale and instead is downloaded and cracked for free is stealing, plain and simple. | I whole heartedly agree with you on this
All of my software IS
Free
Open
Source

I do not steal software
even if I wanted to run closed source software I could not do it on this system

If only they made them so they last | some where in the copyright law you have the right to make a back up copies once you have paid for something copyrighted there was a big stink raised by the RIAA over duel casset players that could copy tapes
you can make copies for your own use only BUT you can't give away or sell copies

I fail to see the connection. | OK, bear with me. I'm under the weather today. Was "I fail to see the connection" directed at "Say what you like about Branson. At least he made the trains run on time."?
"Say what you like about Branson. At least he made the trains run on time." was for Slack's benefit. When Virgin Trains started, many of them did not run on time, or even at all.
" Mussolini made the trains run on time" is something that people say from time to time in a "he wasn't all bad" sense. Despite the fact that it's actually false, it's sort of achieved argumentum ad populum status.
Thus it was a juxtaposition of those two ... uhh, "things" for comedic effect. No was added because Slack is on record as being "anti-smileys".

#74 | I think it's one of the great mysteries of modern times - to rank alongside the continuing popularity of Eddie Izzard - how Branson has managed to con people into thinking he's a cuddly, decent sort of guy.
