There is a lot of talk going around about cap and trade. It is a stupid shell game that is just a way for the govt to get more money. They are talking about costs for gas and electric going up noticeably when this passes. Anything like that at this time is sure as heck not going to help the economy.

Global Warming Predictions.

And the Global Warming skeptics would counter with Sun at its dimmest for nearly a century, say scientists.

A lack of sunspots and solar flares has made the Sun its dimmest for nearly a century, claim scientists.

But if you read the 2nd article, you find:
Quote:
...
that the current slight dimming of the Sun is not going to reverse the rise in global temperatures caused by the burning of fossil fuels.

"What we are seeing is consistent with a global temperature rise, not that the Sun is coming to our aid,"

Agreed.
And with out a vibrant economy, the necessary evolution of energy generation and industrialization is likely to be stalled.
The drive should be to encourage and reward progress, not delay it by punishing everybody, imo.

That is not true, actually. Most junk food is expensive. I think it is just fast and easy. Most people would rather buy a McBooBooBurger and fries than, say make a 9 grain wheat bread, sugarless p-nut butter (or almond butter for the x-tra healthy), and strawberry puree (unsweetened of course) sandwich....with a little 1 cup thermos of acidophilus milk, before leaving the house. One loaf of the healthy bread ($4), one jar of the strawberry puree($4), and 1/2 the jar of nut butter($4), and a half gallon ($4) of milk...Theses are approximate (figuring a little high for carrying charge). Oh, and a dollar store box of Baggies ($1)= $17...
About 10-13 days of a yummy sandwich, and cup of milk.
What is the cost of 10 Mcdonalds Burger/frie/drink days....I would say close to $3 a day....

Oatmeal is an awesome food, and is cheap...so are eggs.....yogurt is cheaper than most ice cream (if you make it, even cheaper). I can even get large 15" X 4-5" salmon for like $7-10.00...that is awesome, and lasts me at least 4 days of protein. The cost of sunflower kernels are still low for what nutrients you get from them. Chicken is still doable. It is much less expensive to make sun teas with herbs, than to buy soda, any day of the week.

The most expensive good foods are probably fruits...veggies are catching up, but you don't have to gorge on either one. Olive oil is expensive too, but well, well worth it, especially if you get the pretty cans.

Well, first of all, don't include me in that collective "we" and "our".

Secondly, there is an old adage: "Police yourself or you will be policed". Left to themselves, people have proven themselves to be messy gluttons. There is only one planet, with finite resources. To fail to recognize that - or to deny it - is to be a fool. Also to politicize it by blaming all the "hype" on socialist scientists who's sole purpose is to ruin the good ol' U S of A is laughable and only tries to deflect responsibility.

How do you feel about a new direction by the US government criticizing Alberta's "dirty" tar sands oil?

I am gonna start buying "fat credits" from all the skinny poeple I can find just in case.
I assume those will be valuable like the "carbon credits" isssued to poluters and "wetland credits" issued to developers of swamps.

I didn't. The our is simply a plural of "our" country.

You should. Canada is the biggest supplier of oil to America and the majority of that comes from the Alberta tar sands. It is called dirty oil because it is very difficult to extract and causes a lot of pollution and environmental disruption.

No offence to your country or you as a people but I find it shocking how very little of Canada is to be found in your news. There are important things affecting both our countries since we are each other's largest trading partners. The only think I remember hearing about Canada is heaps of contempt and scorn because we wouldn't join Bush in beating up Iraq. Oh yeah here's another gem perpetrated by ignorant, fear-mongering congressmen and perpetuated by an equally ignorant American news media industry: 9-11 terrorists entered the US from Canada.
