I think you have a point, there. Although, there are some really nice people here. Like any other social group, they have to get to know you, and you know them.

Well... that may be the case. As I said earlier, I do see your frustration. However, there are ways to "make your case". I think after an administrator was polite enough to send you a note in private about the matter, one might tend to be more compliant. Know what I mean? Until you started a thread, the matter was totally between you and the moderators. Now, everyone knows.

Candy did as you ask, and now there is a clear notification there. I was thinking about updating my profile (it's kind of boring) and noticed the warning.

And seeings my Anti Virus program directed me to this site for further info on a threat that was detected, I found this site helpful so i decided to join.

If I wanted a site to rack up friends, I would use social network site?

Hey............you started it. *shrug* You used the social network area OF this site, to voice a complaint about something you never bothered to ask for an explanation about but simply jumped to conclusions about. As far as I can see, that had nothing to do with your anti-virus problem.......which, so far, you've never posted about.

In fact, the only place you HAVE posted since you've joined is in the social network areas.......namely, here in the Debate Forum. And just in case there is any confusion about it, we are not clairvoyant here (though some here seem to believe they are ) , so the logical train of thought would be that you do NOT have a technical problem and that you DID want to join the social network.

personally, i think it's kinda cool, because it points out that this big 'ol place has a largish group that considers it more than just a tech support site.....it's a community that they're a part of.....

yeah, it'd be great if each new member had to go through the TSG mind reading site first (now...THAT's sarcasm!! ), so that everyone's questions about where they are and what they should do next could be answered before they begin interacting....but as you found out, most everything is already here...in the rules, in the welcome guide, via PM or email....not tailored to the individual, but to the group.
check this out...if you haven't already, go to the introductions forum and read the sticky at its top....it took four months of closing threads (with the same dang warning that's in the sticky also in red letters set before new members before they could even post in that forum) for people to get it.
why did it take so long?....why did it finally -and suddenly- just happen that people stopped posting their tech problems in introductions?....i have no idea

the point being that you're not alone, SoulsRival...almost all of us are here because we made a mistake, or because we wonder if we made a mistake.

move on to the part about solving problems, then....k?

I did not need to post a thread about what my Anti Virus picked up?? It simply had an (i) to veiw more information on this threat? I got my information and decided to browse a few more helpful tips here, when i decided to join. POINT BEING If this Administrator had of pointed this photo/Avatar clearer ( Which I might add appears NO WHERE in member joining info which I read) I would have offered an apology and changed this in the first email. To which was informing me that my pic had been deleted. I accepted this. I was purely browsing round when i stumbled upon civilized debating, it was then I realised others had a variety of pics that seemed to be allowed. So I uploaded a simple cross as i assumed the TEXT on previous pic was why this was deleted?? When I recieved the second email in this tone WHICH WAS RUDE AND TOTALLY UNREASONABLE. I was Offended AND STILL YOU PEOPLE NIT PICK AT LITTLE ISSUES???? I CLICKED SOLVED ON THIS THREAD NOT OUT OF DEFEAT>> PURELY OUT OF SELF RESPECT WHICH YOU ALL SEEM TO LACK.. It may seem that a moderator/admin just went and looked at your profile and asked for a correction. I'm not privy to such information, but I bet they look at all the profiles. This site has really good moderators, and a good moderator (and members alike) can elicit good information by looking at profiles.

Ok.. .we understand that you were offended. I've been offended many times. But the issue is the manner in which you chose to resolve it. Instead of privately following up with that person, report the issue where it could be discussed privately, or contact another admin, you publicly posted your complaint in this forum. Honestly, I think everyone has been fairly gentle.

What are we to deduce? We all have to live by the rules here, and you heard some long-timers say they were asked for corrections also. So, I'm sorry you feel you have to leave the board over this.

The edit profile picture and the edit avatar picture have been totally separate for quite some time now so that even the simplest of simpletons could figure it out... the fact is that people ignore it and think they will go unnoticed.... Candy or Mike or someone has now may it even clearer so that even someone from another planet can understand ... but... some will still thumb their nose at the management anyway...slap in the head comes to mind...

You have only been here 2 days, and already look at all of the fun you're having.

Really, you need to understand something. This site has 2 main sections; A technical assistance section, and a community section.

The community section allows for the debate and discussion on a WIDE variety of issues which have nothing to do with technical assistance.

There are some basic rules such as your posts must be basically family friendly, no curse words, etc. and when debating serious issues, one must put on a somewhat thick skin and not be easily offended.

For the most part, even those with monumentally differing points of view not only get along, but we genuinely like each other as people.

Rather than sticking within this thread and arguing about what you clearly do not understand, I would respectfully suggest that yopu have a look around this community area, especially random discussion and civilized debate and make a few comments of your own so we can get to know you better.

I think you'll find yourself rather pleased with the people here, and you'll want to get to know us as well.

So, ya got off on the wrong foot here your first couple of days. No biggie. We'll get over it if you can.
