#31 | There are plenty of places to donate money. If you want to offer the Salvation Army money that is fine. Just be aware they have very restrictive policies on whom you can marry. IMHO, I will donate my money elsewhere and ask the stores I shop in to replace the Army with another charity. | | Distinguished Member with 66,207 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: California Experience: Intermediate |

They can can work out the marriage thing themselves.

NOTE: I'm not accusing anybody or anything, here; it's just something I'm not comfortable with. I do believe we have some right to question the management of funds donated to a charity or church.
Too, around here, they continuously ring that bell. Did I mention they ring it nonstop?? I've watched them... if someone gives, they quit ringing. If there are people walking by who don't contribute, they ring louder.

Not like that's going to stop me from expressing an opinion.
My feelings about the Salvation Army are mixed. Most of the money collected locally stays in the community, but I think too much goes to support the church's bureaucracy. Nevertheless, the local offices have a lot of discretion about how they spend their funds. I support our Salvation Army because they offer a daycare service that's free for local moms. and they run a job training program that teaches the basics of MS Office and general computer skills to otherwise skill-less and unemployed folks who might at least get a shot at a data entry job after some training.

The Salvation Army has an A rating with them. The book is only $3. http://www.charitywatch.org/azlist.html#s

#39 | not too sure where i read it or if its the SA or the Red Cross, but wasn't there something published about not all (100%) goes to the charity itself, like wages for management and office supplies etc? | | Distinguished Member with 3,282 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2005 Experience: Beginner |

#40 | I did not donate to the Salvation Army this year, they removed Merry Christmas, and since they are a "Christian" organization, I protested.
As for Christmas Carols, hogwash! I live in Sin City (Las Vegas) and our CASINOS played Christmas Carols, religious, traditional, and fun. I was pretty shocked to hear not only Silent Night, but Noel, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, etc. This is one person's decision, and most of the people who were gambling with me were singing these songs as they were throwing their money away, or winning. If a casino can play religious Christmas songs, then so can a mall. | | Distinguished Member with 3,440 posts. | | Join Date: Dec 2001 Location: Wisconsin, USA |

And if we Christians are so concerned about Christmas and protecting it, we should also be concerned about the 52 sabbaths that occur during the year.
If we shop on Sunday's then people have to work to serve us. I think we should all stop spending money on sunday so others can attend services.
Right? I mean, this is bigger than Christmas caroles. | | Distinguished Member with 66,207 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: California Experience: Intermediate |

#44 | I'm not orthodox, I gamble. My point was they are a Christian organization, to remove Merry Christmas is silly. | | | |
