Xmas carols banned from our shopping centre.
I was disgusted! Where was the xmas spirit? Our streets weren't decorated, shops not decorated. How can they stop people singing carols? I thought it would be good PR actually. Bad PR now as it made the newspaper!
What do you think?

Where are you? Where did it say carols were banned? Was it some noise bi-law? More info would be good.

Ipswich, Queensland, Australia, Riverlink shopping centre has banned and kicked out carol singers from the shopping center. It's been written in our local paper. Can't be because of noise as they play a lot of music there, quite loud. I always get a headache when I go there! Our town centre is dead. Closed shops everywhere! AND our mayor is always on the TV saying "move to Ipswich". What for?

Call the mayor's office/newspaper/local TV channel/radio station and make a complaint. I have never observed carol singers being a problem and most people enjoy them. If enough people complain or boycott the center maybe they will change their mind.

I leave in the morning for holidays, apparently quite a few people have complained. I just think it was the wrong thing to do as they were only a church group singing carols!
It was on the news tonight and they said it was deemed to religious!

Ya think? Of course it is religious, but at least here in the US, that is not quite fully illegal yet. Of course the atheists keep trying to change the wording of the 1st Amendment from "Freedom of religion" to freedom from religion.

Vote with your wallet.

Refuse to patronize those businesses who find your beliefs offensive.

And if it is the government mandating this crap, then vote the weenies out of office.

Agreed.
It's hypocritical of business to support the holiday season for the purpose of celebration and then turn around and limit the celebrations.

Spend your money where you're respected.

Shop elsewhere, I say.

Actually, it is a stupid move, because the carolling gets most people in a Christmas mood and they probably buy more.

My grocery store has Christmas music playing and some of the customers were singing along, smiling and having a good old time.

I fully support their business decision. If the carolers are driving business away, then they have every right to kick them out.
I suspect, however, tht this stance will cost them more business than it brings in.

I figure they're more of a nuisance than an asset. Besides, have you ever heard an Aussie sing standard Christmas carol's?? I'd rather hear bagpipes blowing.
