Hoyer: number of investigations proves Congress is "most ethical" in history
By Paul Kane | November 3, 2009; 5:45 PM ET

Quote:
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) on Tuesday said that Democrats are living up to their promise to run the "most ethical" Congress in history, despite a new ethics committee document showing that his party's lawmakers have drawn far more scrutiny than Republicans
.

Quote:
"The good news is, there were a lot of people saying the ethics committee wasn't doing anything. They were disabused of that theory pretty emphatically," Hoyer told reporters Tuesday.

BTW, a midget has an entirely different perspective about global warming in a crowded elevator.
Humanity accounts for less than 4% of the total emissions thought responsible for global warming.
That is a fact.
96+% of those emission are natural.

Obama notes hostage crisis as rallies expected in Iran
November 4, 2009 3:15 a.m. EST

Quote:
"Iran must choose," Obama said in a statement late Tuesday. "We have heard for thirty years what the Iranian government is against; the question, now, is what kind of future it is for. It is time for the Iranian government to decide whether it wants to focus on the past, or whether it will make the choices that will open the door to greater opportunity, prosperity, and justice for its people."

CNN Poll: More Americans are saying that things are going well
Posted: November 3rd, 2009 11:39 PM ET
–CNN Deputy Political Director Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

Quote:
Thirty-seven percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Tuesday night say that things are going very well or fairly well in the country. That's the highest number since November 2007, just before the official beginning of the current recession. It also represents a 7-point gain since August and a 12-point gain since October of last year.

Next Punitive Tax: Meat

The power to tax is the power to destroy. Since the liberal kooks who run the government favor vegetarianism, that will mean the destruction of anyone who eats a normal human diet, if it's up to prominent moonbat "ethicist" Peter Singer, who claims that "the reasons for a tax on beef and other meats are stronger than those for discouraging consumption of cigarettes, transfats or sugary drinks." This is because:

Quote:
1. Despite the fact that our teeth are clearly designed for eating meat, meat is supposedly bad for us.
2. Farming is bad because it's cruel to animals. Let the chickens fly free!
3. Farm animals have to eat, and feeding them is a waste of food.
4. Fertilizer from crops fed to farm animals causes pollution.
…and finally, the topper:

Quote:
5. Eating meat makes it be too hot out because animal farts cause global warming.
Singer's solution: "a 50% tax on the retail value of all meat."
Despite the impression his pronouncements will leave on any sane person, Peter Singer is not a hobo with congealed vomit in his hair, but a distinguished Professor of Bioethics at Princeton and a leading light of the liberal intelligentsia. How he missed becoming Obamao's Diet Czar is anyone's guess.

House Democrats prepare health care bill for floor debate
Posted: November 4th, 2009 01:33 PM ET
–CNN's Dana Bash, Lisa Desjardins and Ted Barrett contributed to this story.
.
Washington (CNN) - House Democratic leaders have put the finishing touches on their health care bill, setting the stage for bringing the measure to the full chamber as soon as Friday.

A 42-page manager's amendment posted Tuesday night made mostly technical changes in the nearly 2,000-page health care bill compiled from three Democratic proposals passed by three House committees.

By making the changes public on Tuesday, the House Democratic leaders could open debate on the bill on Friday or Saturday, while fulfilling their pledge to allow 72 hours of review before bringing the measure to the full chamber.

Huffpost - Hillary Clinton: US Wants Israel To Stop Building West Bank Settlements 'Forever'
Good luck!
ROBERT BURNS | 11/ 4/09 01:50 PM | AP

CAIRO — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton defended the U.S. stance toward Israeli settlement building to worried Arab allies on Wednesday, saying Washington does not accept the legitimacy of the West Bank enclaves and wants to see their construction halted "forever."

Still, she said an Israeli offer to restrain – but not halt – construction represents "positive movement forward" toward resuming Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations.

Clinton met for an hour with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak during a hastily arranged stopover in the Egyptian capital to soothe Arab concerns that Washington is backing off demands for an Israeli settlement halt.

Egypt appeared reassured by Clinton's visit, and Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit called for a resumption of negotiations.

Senate throws a lifeline to the jobless
Lawmakers pass bill extending unemployment benefits by up to 20 weeks. Legislation also extends homebuyer tax credit into next year.
By Tami Luhby, CNNMoney.com senior writer
CNN Radio Capitol Hill correspondent Lisa Desjardins contributed to this report.
Last Updated: November 4, 2009: 6:25 PM ET

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- After weeks of partisan debate, the Senate voted on Wednesday to lengthen unemployment benefits by up to 20 weeks and to extend the $8,000 homebuyer tax credit.

The closely watched legislation would extend jobless benefits in all states by 14 weeks. Those that live in states with unemployment greater than 8.5% would receive an additional six weeks. The proposal would be funded by extending a longstanding federal unemployment tax on employers through June 30, 2011.

The measure would apply to those whose benefits will run out by Dec. 31, which is nearly two million people, according to Senate estimates. Those whose checks have already stopped would be able to reapply for another round.

The measure now moves to the House, which passed its own benefits extension in September, giving an additional 13 weeks in high-unemployment states. The two bills must now be reconciled, though the House is expected to support the Senate's version.

Huffpost - Jim DeMint On Health Care Reform: "Everyone Can Show Up At The Hospital" (VIDEO)
The Huffington Post | Elyse Siegel
First Posted: 11- 4-09 01:41 PM | Updated: 11- 4-09 02:04 PM

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) was caught off guard when pressed about health care in Washington D.C. earlier this week.

DeMint did not appear to know how many people in his home state lack health insurance, or the number that have gone bankrupt as a result of sky-high medical bills.

On the size of South Carolina's uninsured population, DeMint echoed former President Bush: "No one is going to go without health care because everyone can show up at the hospital, that's just not the most efficient way to do it."

GOP continues boycott of committee debate on climate bill
Posted: November 4th, 2009 05:13 PM ET

Washington (CNN) - A Republican boycott of Senate committee debate on a major climate change bill continued for a second day Wednesday, frustrating majority Democrats who have threatened to move ahead despite the lack of a GOP presence.

Only one of the seven Republicans on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee showed up Wednesday when the panel started its meeting on the bill authored by Democratic Sens. Barbara Boxer of California and John Kerry of Massachusetts.

Boxer, who chairs the committee, said Tuesday she hoped the Republicans would join the debate, but that the panel eventually would act on the bill without them as permitted under Senate rules..Forget the Reps, their agenda is anti-Obama on everything.

Obama highlights federal grants for education reform
Posted: November 4th, 2009 03:46 PM ET

MADISON, Wisconsin (CNN) - President Barack Obama took his education reform campaign on the road Wednesday, highlighting a new $4.35 billion grant program designed to encourage higher standards and stronger teacher recruitment, among other things.

The "Race to the Top" fund is one of the largest federal investments in school reform in U.S. history, Obama said. It is being financed with money made available through the economic stimulus plan enacted in February.

"If you're committed to real change in the way you educate your kids, if you're willing to hold yourselves more accountable and if you develop a strong plan to improve the quality of education in your state, then we'll offer you a big grant to help make that plan a reality."
