Undetered by snowstorm, Reid plans to unveil Senate jobs bill

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said that he planned to introduce a jobs measure Tuesday and hopes to have a vote on the package later this week even though many Senate chairmen have canceled hearings and the House has already scuttled its schedule until after the President's Day recess. Reid had hoped to unveil a bill last week but was sidetracked by snow, and the Majority Leader said Tuesday afternoon that the chamber might go out of session Wednesday because of the storm and then return Thursday.

Poll: Majority want work to continue on health care reform bill

Washington (CNN) – Nearly two-thirds of Americans want Congress to keep trying to pass a health care reform bill, according to a new national poll.

The ABC News/Washington Post survey released Tuesday afternoon also indicates that the public spreads the blame when it comes to a lack of bipartisanship in the nation's capital.

"The public seems fed up with both parties and there is more than enough blame to go around this year," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "That's not good news for incumbents on either side of the aisle."

Climate-change legislation buried under record snowfall in capital
Doesn't mean climate change doesn't exist but a smart move.

Record snowfall has buried Washington — and along with it, buried the chances of passing global warming legislation this year.

Cars are stranded in banks of snow along the streets of the federal capital, and in the corridors of Congress, climate legislation also has been put on ice.

Voters are mostly concerned with jobs and the economy. Global warming is at the bottom of their list. And now, on top of that, the paralyzing snowfalls have made the prospect of winning support for a climate bill this year even less likely.

This is ridiculous. What's the point of having jobs when we are all gonna die? The environment should be one of the top 3 priorities. Jobs can be created later but once earth is ruined it's all over.

US Slaps New Sanctions On Iran Revolutionary Guard

The sanctions made public Wednesday expand existing U.S. unilateral penalties against elements of the Guard Corps, or IRGC, which Western intelligence officials believe is spearheading Iran's nuclear program. The step is in line with statements from administration officials that they want sanctions to target Iranian elites responsible for such activity and not the Iranian people in the hope of changing the government's behavior. However, it will be difficult to gauge their effect as it is not clear what holdings the targets may have in U.S. jurisdictions.
