Obama's name had been mentioned in speculation before the award but many Nobel watchers believed it was too early to award the president. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009...l-peace-prize/

If you consider the political leanings of the Nobel folks, it was predictable. The only surprise is that they could restrain themselves until now. | | Distinguished Member with 2,967 posts. | | Join Date: May 2005 Location: hopelessly lost Experience: About 130 | | I thought making Tony Blair a middle east peace envoy would never be topped but this is surrealist irony of the highest order. Roman Polanski to head up UNICEF? | | Distinguished Member with 9,607 posts. | | | | What a joke . Obama has not accomplished any of the lofty goals that the Nobel Peace prize committee wants done yet
They should have watched that SNL skit that had Obamesiah pegged right because he ain't done nothing he has said he would do so far . | | Distinguished Member with 2,111 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 2004 Experience: Intermediate | | Is there an actual Nobel category for "U.S. presidents who trash their own country from foreign soil", or is it unwritten and merely understood. | | Distinguished Member with 14,282 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 2001 Location: Republic of Texas Experience: Advanced | | Old Shrub's ego has to be a bit bruised this morning. He did so much for peace in the world. Not sure which is worse - Obama prematurely getting a Nobel for peace or Bush passing out Medals of Freedom to incompetents.
If I didn't have more important things to do today, I would start the popcorn and sit back reading this thread as all the disaffected and disappointed righties have brain hemorrhages. | | Distinguished Member with 5,954 posts. | | Join Date: Jun 2002 Location: Texas Experience: Beginner | | Quote:

I'll take your suggestion under consideration. Actually it's more fun to drop my upper plate on the floor and let the young things in mini skirts pick them up for me.
Hope you and yours doing well. BTW, should be over in Houston for 7-10 days later this month on a job just north of downtown. I'll give you a shout if I get the chance (provided your cell is the same).
Got to go measure up some air slides for a customer quote. Should get back this afternoon in time to get in a few more laughs from the postings in CD. Right now waiting for the storms to settle down and the morning rush hour to be over. #10 | I think a proper conservative response is, "Congratulations, Mr. President. Please continue to meet the standards of the Nobel Peace Prize."
But no, that will not happen. Our conservative spokesmen will do what they usually do, (bash, spew hate and twist.), and we conservatives will be viewed as insignificant. | | Distinguished Member with 66,591 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: California Experience: Intermediate |

The bottom line is...Obama has the award. Congratulations, Mr President! | | Distinguished Member with 6,285 posts. | | Join Date: Apr 2004 Location: Florida Experience: Advanced |

Congratulations, Mr President! | Come on Poochee I don't hate the man. As the quote I put in there said he had been in office only 12 days before the deadline for voting came about.
What did he do in the first 12 days that would precipitate him receiving the prize? Maybe next year or thereafter would have made the award more legitmate in the eyes of those that keep up with these things.
He sure as heck hadn't done anything prior to his inauguration to deserve the prize.

#14 | This one statement says it all for me. Carry on folks.
October 9, 2009 DNC says Republican critics aligning with terrorists Quote: |
"Republicans cheered when America failed to land the Olympics and now they are criticizing the President of the United States for receiving the Nobel Peace prize – an award he did not seek but that is nonetheless an honor in which every American can take great pride – unless of course you are the Republican Party," the statement also said. "The 2009 version of the Republican Party has no boundaries, has no shame and has proved that they will put politics above patriotism at every turn. It's no wonder only 20 percent of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore – it's an embarrassing label to claim.”

#15 | This is a direct quote from Obama's speech this morning:
"To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who have been honored by this prize," | |
