U.S. report says China engages in cyber warfare
U.S. report says China engages in cyber warfare.

The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission today released a new report that it says details efforts by the Chinese government to engage in cyber warfare and espionage.

Commission's PDF Report: here.

From a security point-of-view - I have no doubt that China has been behind some of the perpetual attacks seen in the U.S, that and China buying up our debt means that they have both the motivation to knock us down a few notches in the world power order, and the motivation to not see us fail - i.e. to repay the debt. A two-headed sword, indeed!

Obama's visit in November should be interesting, eh?

No surprise really, a lot of attacks and malware have been coming from China for a while now...They can't stop the digital piracy thing either, notwithstanding their news releases. Obama's visit probably won't change that, but there are many other things on the agenda, I think... (And, who said only Nixon could go to China? )

Did it take this report for you to realize this??? I guess you have to wait for it to appear in one of your annointed "news" sources before it is real.

And the USA and NSA don't?

All modern technology competent nations are engaged in strategic cyber-snooping: both in terms of military and commercial espionage.

Additionally, ALL Western states regularly snoop on "Secure" government comms.

What do you think the geodesic domes scattered throughout Europe are for?

I've seen them in Gibraltar and Cyprus as well as elsewhere.

They are for SIgInt and Elint and link to both GCHQ (General Communications Headquarters: which is the core British Signals Intelligence base at Cheltenham and sprang out of WWII Bletchley Park, where the Enigma Machine was cracked by the team including Alan Turing) and NSA (Nation Security Agency, Maryland Virginia).

Tens of millions of military, diplomatic and commercial coms (Telephone: Cellular: Fax: Emails: Telex) are cracked every day; and NSA uses the biggest bank of Super Computers in the World, tasked to filter discrete words and phrases, on the issues of terrorism, drugs, crime, money laundering and sedition.

Hi Paq,

I don't believe there was any inference due to the omission of USA and NSA that they don't snoop also. The posting of the report was more or less to illuminate the unconcerned that there is more than one way to "fight a war" other than by conventional means - and we are engaged (shall we say) on several fronts at once in cyberspace and the economic front.

P.S. And here I thought those geodesic domes were hiding Bucky's friends 'til after 2012!

Perhaps an even more worrying facet is spyware being covertly added to commercial software.

For example an Israeli guy called Gil Shwed founded Checkpoint Technology: one of the widest globally used firewall and etc solutions.

But Shwed used to work on secure comms for IDF (Israeli Defence Force).

And rather like the Mafia and the IRA, with the IDF once in never out!

CIA, FBI and NSA have all been accused of conspiracy to add lines of surreptitious code to commercial packages..........................

Clearly World War III was the global battle against communism: and World War IV is the battle to dominate global resources.

Which the USA and the UK are leading the battle to lose by constantly shooting themselves in the foot, economically, fiscally and industrially.

And thus modern warfare exploits and applies state-of-the-art technologies.

Which can be escalated by concerted and massive DOS attacks on Western unsecure backbone comms systems.

Perhaps worse, a couple of satellites triggering the right type of thermo-nuclear devies in orbit would send out massive Electromagnetic Force Fields and knock out most Western comms: both commercial and military: which would allow a neat attack on Western capital markets and trading activities..........

And destroy Western finance bases for all time................

Worth remembering that China placed a man into low orbit, right after the Beejing Olympic Games.

And has enjoyed thermo-nuclear weapons since the 1960s.

The China thread?

The popular majority are not concerned about the now awoken hitherto sleeping dragon, ekim.

More's the pity....................

Took em a while after oppressive policies forced companies out of the US

Think of this in line with a public option for health care. The same clowns in charge of that are just so ahead of the times

Gee .... lets let them finance some more of our debt, shall we?

What is the US going to do about this? China has us by the throat, and the US is doing NOTHING to loosen the grip.
