Jeff Dunham - the PC crowd attacks are getting pitiful
I am not a rabid Jeff Dunham fan but I find much of his stuff very funny and entertaining. Now I read a bit where some clown thinks Dunham needs to be a nicer person and introduce some different characters so he can be more of a healer.

Good grief this PC crap is getting out of hand. One of the funnies shows which I never liked but I was clearly in the minority was All in the Family. There is no way the PC crowd would ever allow that show to start today and this kind of crap does far more to continue our differences than to mend them

Boo hiss for this nonsense. It is called humor you flippin moron PC idiots.

Everybody loves Jeff Dunham, or do they?..................

In his act, five of the seven puppets in his cast of characters are based on racial or cultural stereotypes (José, the jalepeño pepper; Sweet Daddy Dee, the jive-talking pimp; Bubba J, the beer-guzzling redneck), and although Dunham claims he skewers everyone equally, the skewering doesn't seem intended to bridge racial and cultrual divides. In fact, it seems to cement, if not widen, them. Take skeletal Achmed, the Dead Terrorist, whom Dunham claims is not offensive to Muslims in the least (though South Africans disagree). During the act it's revealed that because the dummy has a "Made in China" stamp, Achmed doesn't even think he's Muslim. But one only needs to get to the "72 virgins" joke in Dunham's Achmed bit before it's hard to deny that he's indeed Muslim -- oh, and homophobic, too!

i have to agree....and not just because i think the guy's got talent
or maybe that's not right.....humor heals not because it puts a bandaid on wounds, but because it rips the scab off'n'em, imo....

if there's any weakness to the guy's act, it is not having a "christain crusader" type to talk to Ackmed ....then he could offend everybody

and while he's at it....he could lose the purple whatever it is, too....what is that thing, anyway....a beer drinking alien?

I had a feeling you might be the first to respond. I never really knew about the guy until a year ago or so when somebody told me about Achmed

"I keel you"

Gawd that was funny. I don't care whose feelings it hurts.

But then I have a different perspective on being picked on than most.

Most don't have a clue what that is like

Come-on, Peanut (the purple alien) must be the christian crusader. You simply don't recognize it. I like the expressions that he uses and the act is hilarious!

Maybe if there were more than one or two "Christian crusaders" in the world, he would add that to his act. As it is there are many "dead terrorists", "rednecks", "jalapeno eating hispanics", etc. (including purple aliens, we just do know who they are often)

I remember first watching one of Dunham's performances on Comedy Central probably 10+ years ago.
I think he was much funnier then, but he had a stale repetitive performance until he created Achmed. But even that is getting to be somewhat stale.

Suggesting that Dunham needs to create the Christian opposite of Achmed is utterly absurd. However, I would like to see what characters he will invent next.

Peanut & Walter will always be my favs.

I'm not really keen on his new weekly show. I'd much rather see him perform his art on stage and witness the raw talent and almost improvisational routines.

Ventriliquism isn't an easy thing to do. Making puppets move in a TV show is a whole different thing.

I saw one once where in the middle of the show, this guy gets up to go to the bathroom. Jeff had Walter on stage at the time, and spent I know 10 minutes talking to, and about, that guy in the bathroom (the bathrooms had speakers in them). Absolutely hysterical, and even then managed to later bring that guy back into another improvisation with another audience member. Good stuff.

I remember that bit. The guy's name was mike.

"Hey mike did you hear the show in the bathroom? Well, we heard you!"

I like Dunham...in fact, would not be the slightest bit upset if he made a Christian puppet for his act...or any other. People...as a whole...need to lighten up a bit.

I have the one with Mike on DVD "you didn't wash your hands"

Ok, Brett I thought you had the best new avatar, until I saw Lan's. Sorry, his is the best.

BTW... Lan, what in the world is your avatar?

***

On the subject, it's really simple. If you don't like Jeff, don't watch. I've seen enough of his show that he makes fun of everybody, including himself. Geeze, he goes after himself more than anybody; making fun of the car he drives.

The key is not that people tune in to him because he is making fun of some particular group of people. They tune in, because he makes them laugh.

I think our society needs way less PC, and a whole lot more laughter.
