Who has forgotten? The fall of the iron curtain has not lost its significance in history or in the minds of those who watched it live. What are you implying?

The "never again" statement at the end was ironic given what is going on in North Korea under a dictatorship, Iran under a Theocracy, Guantanamo Bay under a Democracy. and in case anyone hasn't noticed, the communist Chinese are kicking our collective arses economically.

Is there any substance to this thread or can we bring up all of the worlds modern atrocities of oppressed people? It's good to remember the past but it's a shame we can't learn from it to the extent we can apply it at least in our own countries.

Perhaps to many have forgotten...A reminder of the effect of communism.
"The effects of communism",perhaps may have been a better thread title.
Its an ongoing battle..much progress has been made but it will be a few decades before it is wiped out totally...this can only be done with the support of the people...the lefts whine while we try to make the world a better place to live....and whine if you dont

Not saying you are, but if you were thinking you're fighting communism by vociferous opposition to the US's Dems, then you would neither be fighting communism nor would you have been in the past.

Take it from an old anti-commie

I'm sure you believe that.

But all those who actually did have to bear (and suffer under) communism since 1917 will shake their head in wonder at your perception.

I'm glad you haven't yet progressed to calling me Maccarroni"

LOL
I used to think that there is no way the US could ever adopt such idiocy. Now, I am not so sure. Look around at what is being censored, and what is paraded as virtuous.
I'm sure those who suffered in 1917 were fairly confident, as you are now, in 1916.

Sadly, Lan, you need to study the history of Russia prior to 1917 and post 1917.

The peasants of the feudal society which was Mother Russia under the despotic rule of the Romanov family (The Czars), were treated worse than dogs.

Unfortunately, after the revolution, for the majority, they weren't treated any better!

And, rather like France, post the revolution, various groups fought internecine battles for dominance: culminating, perhaps in such as Leon Trotsky having an ice axe buried in his skull by agents of the Leninists in Mexico City.

Soviet Russia was never ever a Marxist state: neither was it Communist, per se.

It just said it was!

It was a collectivised central government of the few: if anything "ist" it was tending towards Fascism.

Unfortunately, the USA is a supposed democracy: which means some of the time, its leader heeds the populace and the voters.

All that is currently happening is a typical reverse swing away from the wholly exploitative GOP control and its myopic mantra of Free Market Supply Side Economic Theory and a Newtonian "Equal and Opposite Reaction".

You see, it's jake to allow a few tens of thousands to control 90% of the wealth: but eventually, the Great Unwashed rise up and say "Enough!"

And, you are in that interesting position in the Socio-Economic calender.

I confidentally forecast it will become much worse before it becomes much better.

It is no shock that the Russians were not treated better after the Romanov family was brutally murdered. But they had a monarchy. Revolution was somewhat understandable.

The revolution we see today in the USA is a revolution against prosperity, in favor of Socialism and centralized governmental control over every bit of wealth in the USA.

If the left gains their goal, the US would be sharing misery and poverty in the interest of "fairness".

We'll go from a government of the people, by the people, and for the people to a government of the left, by the left, and for the left and the beck and call of governmental bureaucracy.

Quoting Lincoln's Gettysburg address is a favourite of Goppies, Lan: like Dubya was often heard to spout off about "Dehmocrachy".

Trouble is what you have and we have in Britain right now might perhaps more accurately be paraphrased as:-

"Government of the people: by the Government: and for the sole benefit of the Government!"
© PDD(R)Ltd

The US is in the worrying condition where the presidency may be bought: by whomesoever is prepared to throw sufficient cash into their campaign.

And once in power, reacts to the awesome might and influence of the Washington Power Lobbies.

The power of that lobby depends on Big Capital: nothing much, therefore to do with the people, then!

The Politicians on the Left are no better and no worse than those on the Right: they have simply set out a differing stall to sell their message.

Poverty and misery?

A serious exaggeration, really.

If you truly examine the published stats (On the White House Website during Geo W's tenure) then you will see how both general poverty and more critically child poverty zoomed.

And perhaps more critically, how since 1950 onwards total governmental spend expressed as a percentage of GDP rose inexorably, year-on-year, irrespective of which party was in control.

Check it out!

http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/...ury_chart.html

There is the root of your problems.

Ours is even worse BTW!

On this point, you are 100% correct.

It's not that the left doesn't see this happening (as most want us all to believe) .... they're encouraging it.

It is nice to hear someone who understands what is called "Communism"--Marxism
Its interesting to read views of "anti-Communists" , but only when they know about what they speak, usually they have not a clue !. . You obviously do .
It either takes personal experience and reading , or just some serious reading to understand it --and a little history helps greatly .

Good luck with advising that !
Try to explain the economic theory of Marxism , and how it relates to the criminal lunacy of Joe Stalin for example !

In the U.S. most folks know this --Communism bad . I suppose thats good enough .
The only problem is when people start being labeled as Marxists when they are not , or when a govt program to benefit all --becomes "Communism "because we pay for it. .
Taxes = Marxism
Thats one reason I stay away from the discussion of Marxism , have for years .
If you assume who you are discussing with understands --you will be disappointed quickly ! .
I don't really blame those folks -- Marxism is dead or dying , and who wants to invest the time to understand it ?.
Nice post though . >f
