Hi all, just to say that I agree completely with Valis' opinion. Alcahol is so much more destructive, both to the individual in particular and society in general, yet it is legal.

Every argument I have ever read or heard for legalising what are presently proscribed drugs, uses this fallacious argument!

It is what is termed Illogical Syllogism.

Ergo, taking two facts and employing them to reach a conclusion.

Example:

Valis has Facial Hair:

Moles have Facial Hair;

Therefore QED Valis is a Mole!

More apposite example in this context:

Hitting your cranium with a ten pound Lump Hammer damages your skull:

However, shooting yourself in the head with a .375 Magnum also damages your skull:

Conclusion: Hitting yourself on the head with a ten pound Lump Hammer is less harmful than shooting yourself in the head!

So let's legalise hitting yourself on the head with ten pound lump hammers and encourage everyone so to do since it relasese their inner unconscious state and allows a spiritual connection with the loss mists of archaic time and..........

Blah blah.......

Introducing things which are equally/more/less harmful which just happen to be legal adds no weight to the argument and clouds and muddles it.

A more logical and pragmatic posit would be to:

1. Advocate banning sales of alchohol: &,

2. Start another thread on the evils of alchohol.

And others on the evils of Trans Fatty Acids in McGreaseburgers; Celebrity; Fat Al Gore: et al.........

Logic will get you no where in this thread

You can point out the failings of society endlessly and the deed of failing will continue to be argued as the rationale for additional feeble mindedness of the same nature.

The power of the illicit drugs in question has that much influence on rational thought.
Desire overwhelms reason.

Within the confines of this thread, we are all, each of us, but a set of cannabiniod receptors.
