Have you been PC'd?
This Morning while doing some Shopping I was - erm - 'greeted' by a coloured Youth in a Car with a Demeanour that can only be described as snidey and rather slimey. No-one would like this very much - irrespective of Colour, Creed, Ethnicity etc - but I sensed an old PC Trick they used to play in the early 1980s! Bristol had a Rude Boy called Kaoumba Balugun who played the PC Card as and when it suited him - except he did it so many Times a Newspaper offered to repatriate him. (Visa, Plane Fare, Passport and sort out any Legal Issues). If he wasn't a Rude Boy in St Pauls, he'd have been a Yardie in Jamaica - except this Publication offered to cut out the Middle Man completely and send him back to Harare in Africa! I suppose whoever was behind it thought they were so clever that it had never been done before. Sorry Mate but they were doing this in 1981-3, and People got so peeved off when scuzzy People hide behind Political Correctness that it stopped working Years ago.

Also, I've worked with Afro-Carribeans - some in Journalism and others in Uni Union Activities and they weren't the slightest bit like him. Similarly, there's a song by Queen from Day at the Races called "White Man" - but also an Issue raised in Kevin Costners Film where one of his Native American Friends refers to "Good Trade" - and I'd have to ask his white Equivalents when that actually starts!

I believe what LH is alluding to, Karen, is negative social experiences, caused by racial and ethnic difference: his usage of the term "PC'd" is probably local vernacular and may be taken as inferring "Suffered from abuse of excessive and ill-placed Political Correctness".

Bristol, England suffers significant racial tensions and has a large Afro-Caribbean migrant population, particularly in the St. Paul's district.

It is further fact, not anecdote, that presently, Britain suffers, globally, from excessive "enthusiasm" by bureaucrats, seeking to impose exaggerated standards of political correctness, backed up by the Human Rights Act, the courts and the police authorities: mainly since they have all been driven to this, during the twelve odd years of the Blair government, between 1997 and 2010 and its determination to impose the Liberal Imperative, at all levels and functions of British society.

Fundamentally, this has caused a reverse conclusion to that desired: the old law of Unintended Consequences holds good.

This is a fair topic for debate: however and that said, it would have to be handled with intense delicacy and sympathetic consideration to all facets and aspects involved; and I fear it could easily and rapidly, degenerate into inflamed feelings and opinion.

If allowed to proceed, pro tem, then the topic would require very tight and careful moderation.

Understood but what's the question being put forth for debate?

Or is it just to recount personal experiences?

I believe, CG, the OP seeks exemplars of persons who have suffered from Political Correctness, wrongly applied: and thereafter, additionally seeks to debate the issue of Political Correctness.

However and that said ( ) it is, after all, our friend, LH thus I could be awfully wrong!

Anyway: as I was saying before the back axle broke..............................

And a few years ago our company stopped having Christmas parties and started having "Holiday" parties!

I think "PC" actually translates into "spineless cowards".

The words "I believe" and "alluding to" should not even figure into it as serious debates are supposed to be clearly presented as such from the start. Nothing has been presented for debate and judging from the replies so far, it's just to post incidents of PCness and therefore not a serious debate thread.

And may I add that no clear point of debate has been put forth by the thread starter after more than one request to do so. Lighthouse, can you give a reason why this thread should remain tagged as "Debate"?

That hallowed organ of probity and correctness, the mighty British Broadcasting Corporation: well as they might like to be known, but in reality a bunch of slavering Labour government sycophantic grovelers and functionaries vested with the Liberal Imperative, the Holy Grail of PC.......

This week announced hitherto they were banning the usage of the expressions AD (Anno Domini - After Christ) and BC (before Christ) as use of these expressions might upset certain groups of people.

Which is rather hilariously amusing.

Since both the Jewish faith and Islam references historic events to the Gregorian Calender, yet adjusts their religion dates accordingly.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/c...te-drivel.html

No doubt their next step will be to organise a bonfire of all books containing such scurrilous date references.

We live in a word gone utterly mad.

Couldn't agree more, CG.

On such basis 99% of CT should be excised immediately!

Since it is continuous drivel.

P.S. It was irony: don't they do irony in those far northern latitudes?

From my signature: "Irony is more humane than its sneering cousin, sarcasm, which is intended to demolish and ridicule."

Yes, some of us do irony; those that unserstand the difference between it, sarcasm or coincidence.

What basis is that? We are only talking about tagged threads here and there aren't many as it is.
