RNC's Priebus on Rep. Allen West 'slave' comment: I'm not GOP 'police officer'

Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus said Tuesday that he wasn't "the police officer of the Republican party" after being pressed over controversial comments by Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.).

“He does not want you to have the self-esteem of getting up and earning and having that title of American," West said, continuing, "He does not want you to have the self-esteem of getting up and earning and having that title of American. He’d rather you be his slave."

I wonder if Walsh ever got a Purple Heart or even served.... Wasn't this the guy who had to be sued by his ex-wife for child support? The people of Illinois must be real proud of him to keep him in office...

Reform stalls as tariff loopholes return to the House

Back in 2010, House Republicans made a bold promise. To show they were serious about reform, they would deny themselves two well-used — but frequently misused — tools of congressional power.

In short, they would stop doing expensive favors for the folks back home with taxpayer dollars.

The House GOP banned “earmarks,” which allow a legislator to dole out taxpayer money for hometown projects. They also banned a lesser-known kind of favor, which allowed a congressman to give a local company a break on its federal tariff payments.

But now, 19 months later, dozens of Republicans have decided they went too far. They want to bring one kind of favor back.

GOP damage control after Team Romney definition of mandate

Republicans sought to do damage control for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Tuesday after a senior adviser’s tap-dance on the healthcare mandate.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in an appearance on Fox News suggested Romney adviser Eric Fehrnstrom misspoke when he called the mandate a penalty and not a tax, while other Republicans suggested Fehrnstrom’s comments were merely a trial balloon.

"The increase in cost is not because doctors are making a lot more money. It's what you can get for healthcare, extending your life and curing diseases."

N.Y. Sen. Marty Golden cancels feminine etiquette class after outrage

(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - A New York state lawmaker has canceled a feminine etiquette class after it incited outcry from his colleagues and constituents.

Republican Sen. Marty Golden's website advertised a July 24 class that would teach women from his Brooklyn district to "sit, stand and walk like a model" and how to "walk up and down a stair elegantly," according to CBS Station WCBS.

There they go again, trying to control Women's Lives....

Corrupted Ohio Recount in the 2004 Presidential Election

A hand recount of the vote can theoretically be a last line of defense against machine error, accidental or purposeful, in the counting of votes – assuming that there is a “paper trail” to count. For example, optical scan voting machines leave paper trails – ballots with filled in ovals adjacent to the candidate’s name. Punch card voting machines leave paper trails – ballots with holes punched out (or at least some evidence of an attempt to punch a hole) adjacent to the candidates name. Some electronic voting machines also are made to leave paper trails, but there can be serious problems with those (See Chapter 3). But many electronic voting machines leave no paper trail at all. In those cases, it is not possible to perform a hand recount of the vote because there is nothing to count.

But even when hand recounts are performed, the system can be rigged to make them ineffectual. Such was the case in the Presidential election of 2004 in Ohio, under the direction of Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell, who simultaneously served as the Bush/Cheney campaign Chairman in Ohio.

Because of the numerous suspicions surrounding the election in Ohio, an assurance to the citizens of this country that fraud played no major role in the outcome of this election should have been based on a full investigation.

“You know, the president can put all kind of spin on it,” Gingrey said. “He's got a nice swagger, a toothy smile, shows lots of gum. But what the American people want now is a little bit more gumption, a little less gum.”

In the wake of the rocker's notorious outburst against Obama and Democrats this April, Romney's camp was forced to clarify that it hadn't expressed direct support or solicited Nugent's endorsement, contrary to the singer's claims. But Romney remained unwilling to condemn Nugent any further, as the campaign simply maintained that the presumptive GOP presidential candidate "believes everyone needs to be civil."
