I have just discovered that I have some .bmp image files in (at least) one folder in My Documents that will not open even though the thumbnails are there and look fine. There is also one .jpg with the same problem. There are some .jpg’s that are fine in this folder and one .bmp that WILL open with some of it covered by black bars. This is not My Pictures folder where all the files seem fine. (All this on one hard drive.) I have had no problems with this 1.5 TB drive and chkdsk shows none now. In the past, when I’ve had corrupted image files, I have not seen good thumbnails. I think I know the answer but I want a second opinion. Is there any hope of recovering these images?
