What has happened?
Hello, when I try to edit my pictures I now get a muddled mess
of all kinds icons. I attach a copy for you to see. All was well untill
this morning, I haven't knowingly made any adjustments.
I would appreciate some help with this. TIA.

It might be a good idea to name your OS & Photo editing program, this will probably help someone to help you :-)

As I have mentioned in my post I wasn't aware of making any adjustments. I did think it strange opening in notepad. I simply
don't know what happened.
To answer a question, thankfully I have XP Home SP1 and was able to restore to a couple of days ago. All is now well.
I hope some of you have had your laugh now and will be able to settle down.

If we laugh it is with you and not at you. Graphics are a little different until you get to understand what is going on.

No offense intended Boyoh. I am sure I have done worse things. Sometimes you can go to a web page or download an application and it can maliciously change your associations. You might want to run Spybot / Ad-Aware and a virus scan to check things out. If you need any help with those, the Security forum has a bunch of experts...

Thanks for the further posts. All is now well.

I "know" my system is clean. I have purchased the best Spyware
and Anti-Virus software and I use it regularly.

Hello boyoh,

Pleased everything is back to normal. I know I had problems when I installed a third photo editing program - it took over all my photo associations and I couldn't get them back to the previous program until I uninstalled it.

Best wishes,
Penny.

Thanks penny, as I mentioned I just don't know what happened.
One day all is well, next, all is not well.

You wouldn't like anything to happen to yours when you have all
those lovely photos to work with. Were you not able to use the software then?

Hello boyoh,

It was really strange. I couldn't get the photos to open in the other programs while using the one that had hogged the extensions. I now have IrfanView and Paint Shop Pro 8 and they seem to work well together!

Computers sometimes seem to have a life of their own!

I am a paid-up member of community.webshots and use the "back-up" facility they have, so my photos are all copied on to my second hard drive. The one without the operating system, so they are safe (I hope).

Best wishes,
Bye,
Penny.
