USB not recognizing Digital Camera
My Sony Vaio PC is not recognizing my Sony digital camcorder nor my Fuji digital camera as a Plug and Play device.

i am running Windows ME and have tried loading the correct drivers several times. i even formatted my hard drive and reinstalled everything.

Anyone else run into this? Any solutions?

Thanks!

Are you looking in "My Computer"... my Sony cybershot dig cam shows as another harddrive, and I can open the pictures from there, look for another drive when the camera is plugged in and ready...Rhett

( And welcome to TSG, just keep posting back, and sooner or later, we'll have you going )

Have you had another device work in the same USB port you plug the cameras into?

Yeah..I have tried the following to no avail:

1. reinstalled (several times) both original drivers as well as digital video camera driver.

2. tried scanner and another digital camera on the same USB ports. All 3 devices work fine on another computer I have.

3. I formatted the hard drive and reinstalled the original software. i even re-installed Windows ME.

4. The Sony PC support line made me do exactly all the same steps at least 3 times...with no success. (by the way, Sony's tech line has an almost zero wait time to get thru to a live person! I was impressed!)

I have not been able to find any news items that say that Sony Vaio RX-450 series has any inherrent USB problems.

Thanks in advance for any input/advice!

Maybe your answer is obvious to you but it isn’t to me.

Did the scanner and other digital camera work on the same USB port?

You have a Sony camcorder, Fuji camera, scanner and another camera – that adds up to 3? Is the Fuji the “other digital camera”? How many things are you actually having problems with?

Also, are you using a USB hub ? If so, try the device in the main USB plug on the PC, I have heard that some hubs are not compatible with all devices...

Slipe, yes, I am having problems with all 3 devices (scanner, Sony digital camcorder, and Fuji Digital camera). No device that I have tried seems to be recognized.

Rhettman5.1, there is a USB Root Hub and I have tried all ports...none are working.

Anyway...I went out last night and bought a peripheral PCI USB adapter and plugged that into one of the PCI slots I have on the computer. I get 5 USB ports - AND THEY ALL WORK!

Cost me C$60 at the local electronics store. BTW, i got version 2.0 and boy is it faster than the previous version!

Thanks for all the input!
