Transferring 800 digital pics from laptop to home computer
I need to know how to get about 800 digital pics from my laptop to my home p.c. I only have a dvd drive on my lap top, so I can't burn them onto a c.d. However, I have a c.d. burner on my home p.c. and would like to save them onto a c.d. So, my question is: how do I get all those pics from one computer to another? Can I e-mail the entire pic. folder as an attachment?

Howdy

I'm going to do the same thing for my father PC to laptop about 500 pics.

First thought was to throw a burner in his desktop and just burn them to discs and load them in the laptop that way but

I thought I would try this http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...639&pfp=SEARCH

Probably not very fast but I don't care...I'll set it up and leave it alone till it's done

If both have network cards you can do it with a crossover cable I believe

You can also use a null modem cable. Parallel is faster and is the DB25 cable. http://www.cablesnmor.com/nullmodem.html It wouldn’t be as fast as LapLink but the cable is all you need for about $5.

Type “directparallel” in the XP help or use “Hyperterminal” in older systems.

Slipe, I looked at the pic. of that cable, now I'm wondering where would I plug that into the laptop?
The cable wanabe listed shows both end USB which I can see working. The laptop is new with XP and the home pc is 3 yrs old with ME, if that helps.

I believe the cable slipe linked is parallel to parallel...the port your printer uses... assuming your laptop has a printer port...$6...http://www.cablesnmor.com/null-modem-cables.html

ok yes the laptop does have a printer port. So I just unhook both printers and plug the cables in those slots. What happens next? How do I transfer the pics after I plug in the cables? Do the cables come with software or something. I'm a little lost here.

You would then use DCC (Direct Cable Connetion) to transfer the files. Here's a tutorial for setting it up in XP

If both machines have USB ports, you can purchase a removable media device for a fairly low price. This would be useful for a lot of purposes. Just plug it into the source machine, write onto it, then plug it into the target machine and read from it, much like a floppy disk. .

Tiger Direct is offering is offering a 128 MB 'Thumb Drive" for $19.99. Other sizes are available.

The thumb drive looks cool. I've never heard of that before or seen it before. Looks like it would work. I might try a cheaper way though since once I have these transferred, from now on I'm dumping the digital pics into both computers via the memory card in the camera. SO I won't have this problem in the future.
**Rockn: I'm having trouble getting a look at that link. That link is giving my computer a migraine. WOuld you send it again and double check it. Thanks. I still want to check that out.

Did typing "directparallel" in the XP help not get full directions? You can also use the hyperterminal in the desktop.
