Scanner Problem please help
Hope someone can help me out here. Whenever I scan a picture to e mail to someone...the attatcment file is always too big and wont send. I was told it has to be a jpeg and not bitmap??? But how do I change it? I went into scanner settings and set it for jpeg...but still says the file is too big???? Thanks to anyone that can help me.

OK...,a couple things can be done to reduce the file size of a scan.

1. Reduce the resolution that the scanner is working at.

Just because it CAN scan at 1200x1200 doesn't mean it always SHOULD.Once you reduce the Rez,you'll see those files sizes drop off dramatically,as well as the actual size of the image.
Try this first, and save the copies to a folder as tests in both .bmp and .jpg formats.Try a couple different resolutions to see what gets you the best picture in both image and file size.

2. Save the image to a file and edit it with another software program.

Cropping and resizing is the work of an image editor program, not something that a scanner can do automatically. If you do not want to crop the images, you could try using the IrFan Viewer to resize the whole image as you scanned it.

It is a free tool to download and simple to use. This program will give you the ability to resize or resample(better quality) and save to a different compression level (for .jpeg images).Play around with it and you will get the hang of it very quickly.
