So-So Quality of Digital Pic as Desktop Background
Here's something I can't figure out. When I view my digital pics as a slideshow they are awesome. They clarity and quality is unbelievable! But, when I then choose a pic to use as my desktop background, the quality REALLY lacks in most cases.

Why is this?

The same pic filling up my entire computer screen has 2 VERY different appearances......is there any way to correct this? I want my desktop pic to look as awesome as it does in a slideshow.

Are the slidshow images full screen? What are the dimensions in pixels?

If you are making the slideshow from digital camera images my guess is that they are being downsized. Most digital cameras make images large enough to view as wallpaper. If you downloaded the images they are probably too small in the first place to fill the entire screen.

Download the free Irfanview if you don’t have it: www.irfanview.com

Open one of the images in Irfanview and go Image>Resize/Resample. Look at the current size. If you have a 600 X 800 screen resolution the image should be about that large. If it is go Options>Set as Wallpaper>Centered. It should look fine.

There are sites online that have thousands of wallpaper images. You usually select according to your screen resolution so it fills the screen. They always look good as they are the right size.

Thank you. Here's what I was doing wrong. I was using a photo that I had already resized to a smaller size with Infranview. Once you've resized a photo and saved it that way you can't get the same quality if you try to resize it back to it's original size.

I uploaded the same pics from my camera again but did not resize them......now they look awesome as a desktop background.

I never “Save” after I alter a photo. I always “Save as” and give it a different name. That way I always have the originals.
