Angry aarrrgghh! hp
my hp all in one 1210 is so frustrating.
when my husband bought it, he was too impatient to read the instructions poster, so he plugged it into my usb port, while the instructions say, in big red letters, that you should not do this.
well, the software was not properly installed, so we couldn't view and print. we could only scan in, then print to my already installed epson printer.
no reason for an all in one if this is the case.
so i attempted to uninstall the software, and this is where everything gets yucky.
uninstaller that was provided with the software is junk.
it told me that it uninstalled, but then when i attempted to reinstall, it says it was already successfully installed!
i went through this process 3 or 4 times, being sure to restart.
manually deleting files may have been a bad choice, but it was a suggestion i got, and tried, without success.
using spybot, regvac, and many others to clean the registry also have failed.
finally, after talking with an hp technician, i seemed to have fixed it!
the software was behaving normally, but.......

in my control panel, printers, the hp shows up in red letters saying something like, "user intervention, use offline"

i uninstalled the printer, but not the software yet, (i'm scared i won't be able to get it back!)
plus, right after i thought everything was ok, my modem was acting funny, i couldn't dial up! this is ok though, because i have a new one for dsl.

can anyone help me get my printer to work normal?

If you open your Printers and Faxes and right click on your printer I think you can deselect “Use offline” – I think the choice is “Use printer online” when it is offline. That would probably get rid of the message.

i assume fixed, but if not , then it would be worth going onto the tech notes area,
i had a simllar problem with a friend, and we removed the devices from the system using device manger,
then followed the instructions, then all worked correctly, scanner, printer, fax etc

BUT ASK the tech guys here 1st

Something else worth checking is the hp site. I did the same as you with my hp printer, did things in the wrong order, got rid of the software to start again but, it was always being recognised as installed. There are files that the uninsall doesn't get rid of.
HP supply a tool to get rid of them so you can start afresh.

Just had a look,
HERE is the info telling you what happens if this is the case. The link to the uninstaller utility is there too.
After I used the tool, the install went without a hitch. Still needs to be connected in the right order though.
