I am looking to buy a new digital camera and am interested in either a 4 or 5 MP camera. What else should i look for in a camera? Someone told me to look at the optical and digital zoom. Do they make a big difference? Any suggestions on cameras?

Just my opinion.

3 megapixel minimum

3 x optical zoom (forget about digital zoom as you can do that with software.)

& for the type of work you are going to do look for something that will take an auxiliary flashlight.

As for brands, stick with something popular, but shop around.

A few more points:

Storage medium & capacity

Lens quality

Physical size

Ergonomics’

How it connects/transfers to your pc

Robustness

If you can, get the dealer to let you try one out.
