Card reader
I purchased a Memorex USB Card Reader. I tried to install it but could not.
Called Memorex with no result.
I returned the reader and exchanged it for a SanDisk. Same problem.
I had recently purchased a TOL Gateway computer so I went to the Gateway store and asked the rep to install the reader on an identical computer. It installed immediately with no problem.
I tried Sandisk Support, Gateway Support and Microsoft Support, each saying that it was someone else’s problem.
One Tech Support Rep suggested that the Microsoft XP Service Pack download may be the problem.
After several attempts, I can get the reader to work but each time I turn my computer off or reboot here’s what happens>

After the computer reboots, I wait about 3 minutes and a balloon appears at the lower right corner of the quick launch task bar above the clock, as follows “found New Hardware SanDisk ImageMate 6in1 USB Device”
Then a second balloon appears “Found new hardware – Disk Drive”
Then the first balloon appears again and the second one appears again.

Then a “Found New Hardware Wizard” box appears with the following text:
“Cannot install this hardware
There was a problem installing this hardware
SanDisk ImageMate 6in1 USB device
An error occurred during the installation of this device
The specified service does not exist as an installed service
click finish to close Wizard”
After I click finish, three similar Wizard boxes appear and I click finish on each of these.
Finally another balloon appears above the clock:
“Found new hardware
A problem occurred during hardware installation
Your new hardware might not work properly”

At this point the card reader works.
