Fuji Image Memory Card Runtime Error File 53 not found
When attempting to install a Fuji Image Memory Card
Reader DPC-R1 I receive a series of errors:
1. Runtime Error File 53 not found
2. Error in Newdev.dll. Missing Entry: ClientSide Install

I have located the file. It is in:
C:\Windows\
C:\Windows\System32
C:\Windows\Driver Cache
C:\windows\LastGood\System32
C:\windows\LastGood\System32\Dll cache

I followed the installation instructions by installing
the software with the Memory Card not connected to the
USB, restarting the computer, then attaching the memory
card reader to the USB. When I checked the device driver
it indicated no driver was installed but I could not
browse to install the driver. Does anyone have any
suggestions?

What Operating System and what version?

Its safe to assume you are using Windows, and if its XP there should be no need for a driver, the device should show up as a removeable drive.

I use another brand of card reader and no driver is required.

kiwiguy - I'm running Windows XP home. Here's what the installation Cd brings up:

"Click to select an installation option.

Install Driver Software for DPC-R1
To install the driver software.
After the installation, your PC needs to restart."

Therefore I have to believe we are installing a driver. When I had it working before, it installed okay and it did show up as a drive (Drive G in my situation) and was accessible. Trying to get an answer from FujiFilm is like pulling hen's teeth.

Anyway, I again attempted to install it with the same error message response.

What happens if you uninstall everything relating to the card reader, then simply plug the card reader in when the PC is running?

I have a couple of card readers here, and they all work fine without the drivers. They are recognised as removable drives. I also run XP Home.

The only caution with one of them is that the device must be "stopped" (from the task pane) before removing the card, or it gets a bit upset.

While they both came with drivers, these are only needed for earlier versions of Windows.

The most recent card reader I bought is an Apacer embedded reader, it fits in a spare 3.5" bay and accepts all memory cards. It plugs into a USB header on the motherboard and again required no drivers to be loaded.

Kiwiguy - nothing happens and it does not show up as a piece of installed hardware. There is no light indicating it is reading the memory card when a memory card is inserted.

I am not in a panic on this since I can hook up my Olympus camera directly to a USB port and download pictures, but It rankles me a little when I paid $80.00 for this piece of hardware and I can't get it to work.

KiwiGuy - I wanted to get back to you on the resolution of the problem. This may start showing up in instances of inability to install hardware or updates. Thanks for your assistance.

I'm sorry I'm a little late in getting back to you. The issue has finally been resolved after paying my $35.00 fee to Microsoft. There is an issue with Windows XP whereby the "newdev.dll" file can become corrupted. The fix is an update to help resolve the problem.

When this file is corrupted you are unable to install hardware and will receive the errors "Runtime Error File 53 not found and then another pop-up error announcing that there is an: "Error in Newdev.dll. Missing Entry: ClientSide Install."

Just replacing the file does not rectify the problem. The procedure that worked is as follows:

1. Search Files and Folders for all instances of "Newdev.dll" and rename them to something like: 1newdev.dll

2. Go online and type in the address browser "Q814033.notlong.com/

3. Download the file and Install from the site.

Please take note that I had already downloaded and installed this update but it was not effective until the newdev.dll files in Windows\System32, Windows\LastGood\
System32 and Windows\LastGood\System32\DllCache were all renamed (effectively removed from operation) and the update Q814033 installed.

Immediately after this was corrected I was able to install my scanner without a hitch and also a FujiFilm Memory Card reader without incident.

tcomm - I received your post but I'm unsure of what the issue is. Are you experiencing a Runtime Error File 53 message with a Fuji Image Memory Card installation?

tcomm - try uninstalling the software completely then reboot the computer.

Next reinstall the software but do no have the Fuji Memory Card connected.

After you have reinstalled the software turn off your computer.
connect the Fuji Memory Card and restart your computer.

It should recognize the new hardware and ask if you want to continue with the installation. Say yes.

If, after you go through this process and it still doesn't recognize it, check and see if you have a conflict by going to "My computer/propertiers/Hardware/Device Manager/Disk Drives and see if it is recognized. Also in the same listing check USB connectors and see if the Fuji Memory card is recognized there.

I'm not familiar with Windows 2000 since I went from Windows 98se to WinXP and the problems I had with Windows XP in getting hardware and software to work is unbelieveable. You might also try the Microsoft Forums for an answer if we can't find the answer. Another excellent forum is: http://www.xpforum.co.uk/forum/profi...egister&ruid=2

The expertise level is excellent and they respond quickly It is a UK site so expect a slight delay in response. If you go to these forums, give them as much info as you can: Type of equipment, RAM, Operating System, Steps you have tried etc.
