MGI Photosuite III Problem With Opening JPEG
Hi everyone. I am having a hard time with my old copy of MGI Photosuite III. It came with my webcam a couple of years ago. Anyway, I have this picture (JPEG Image) that I want to load into MGI Photosuite III and edit. Unfortunately, it is having problems loading the file. The file has nothing wrong with it though. I have included a JPEG file that I edited with PhotoSuite that shows the error. Its weird that I was able to edit this JPEG file but I am not able to edit some other JPEGs. If you don't want to open the file, the error says this:

<File Name>; Error occurred while trying to read file. File might be already open, file might be corrupted or file type is unsupported.

Now the problem is that the file was not already open, the file is not corrupted, and the file type is supported by MGI Photosuite III. The stats of my computer are in the signature in case you need to know. I hope somebody can help me out with this.

Thanks.

Hi Holly..
Are you sure the picture is not corrupt ?

Try this..highlight the JPEG with a single left click in the folder it is in.

While holding down the "shift" key, right click the highlighted JPEG.

Then select "open with" from the list that appears.

From the list that that pops up, select "Explorer"

Do not tick the "always use this program to open this type of file"

Now click OK...does the photo open in an explorer window??

If not, then the file is probably corrupt, or has a incorrect file extension, post back and let us know...Rhett

Oh no. This is weird. The photo works fine within Windows Explorer, Microsoft Photo Editor, Paint, and Windows Picture and Fax Viewer but it does not open within Internet Explorer. I have no idea why though. I mean, what's wrong with it? Is there still a chance to fix it?

Open it in a program that works ok then "save as" in a different format (bmp, tiff) then see if it will load into Photosuite

Ok, thanks for the help. I've got my problem solved. First I converted the corrupt files into BMPs and then when I was done editing them in MGI, I resaved them as JPEGs and they work fine. I noticed that total size of all the original JPEGs was way more than the size of the fixed JPEGs. I wonder what could have caused it to do that? Well, thanks for the help!

Holly3278,

If you was saving the new jpg's and your setting are set compress them then that is why. If the file size is a lot them check your setting.

Also some image program can added or take away the file size in the way the save the files.

Oh ok. Thanks for the answer. I really don't know if the images are compressed or not. They were sent to me by a friend over Yahoo.

No I mean when you saved them again you may be compress them.
On .jpg images a lot of image programs has it set by default to compress .jpg image so your need to check your setting, options on your image program. Some can have .jpg set to compress up to 20% by default.
I have all mine set so it does not compress the as little as I can.
