No sound recording from Camcorder.
I am using Pinnacle PCTV Rave tv tuner card, Pinnacle Studio 8. My camcorder is a Sony CCD-TRV25. I am using a composite cable(I think that is what it is. The yellow connects to video out from the camcorder and goes to the video in on the tv tuner card. The black connector is going from the audio out on the camcorder to the tv tuner card. I have also tried the audio connector going to my integrated microphone slot and the line in slot.
My video works fine but I do not get any sound. Not sure exactly what to adjust in S8.
Also, the composite connector doesn't exactly fit "snug" into the recieving connector of the sound connectors.

Please help.

Thank you ,

Have you enabled all options in Volume Control? Some may be muted or not selected. There are 15 separate sliders in my setup.

Well, I still can't figure this one out.
I am trying to capture home video from my camcorder to a DVD of my 2 children. I have been struggling with the sound for several days and I have finally come to you for help.
I cannot figure this out.

I am having trouble capturing my sound. The video seems to capture just fine. I have created a web page that has pictures and all the setting that I know about. I have read the manual for S8. Actually twice. And I think I have all of my connection and setting right. My one concern is that the "Audio" connection doesn't fit "snug" in to the TV Tuner card audio port.

Please, if I have left something out let me know.

If the URL doesn't work please let me know.

My computer and Camcorder info:
Gateway 310 XL
2.6Mhz. 768MB of RAM
40 Gig HD
Capture card: Pinnacle PCTV Rave
Software: Studio 8 with latest update.
Camcorder is a Sony Handycam CCD-TRV25. Analogue

Thank you so much!!

Why aren't you using your firewire port from the camera, to the firewire jack on your computer to capture both video and sound. Thats the fastest and most efficent way to do it. What you will get is an avi file with both sound and video---By the way, your software is horrible. Pinnacle is chock full of problems--just go to any video forum on the Net.

Give it a try with firewire and tell us what happens----.

Okay, think I have your solution. I installed a TV card into a friend's PC just for this purpose and she had the same problem. The solution was easy: plug the sound from your camcorder into the Mic spot on your sound card....This should work as it worked perfectly for her.

Good luck and let us know how you make out!

For archive purposes:

I received an email from Senna stating that he went to Radio Shack, bought an adapter and plugged sound into MIC and it worked.

I asked him to post his update, no luck, so I don't know what sort of adapter he is talking about. But bottom line, it worked.

MustBNuts,
Hey, just now getting a chance to email. I had already throwwn the package away when I received your email. I went to Radio Shack with my composite cable in hand. I had also taken a picture of the connectors on my computer and brought that with me so that the associate would know exactly what I was talking about. And he did. It was called a 1/8 connector.
I brought it home and connected it to the cable. I had my leads coming from the video camcorder and the video connector went to my video in on my PCTV card. I had to play around with it a bit but the audio connector had to be connected to my audio in on my sound card. Works like a charm!!!!!!
Thanks to everyone who helepd me!!!.

Now, I have to figure out why my quality is not as good as the original from the camcorder.

Thanks again,
Senna

Probably a cheap sound card and/or speakers?

Oopps, I meant that my video quality wasn't as good as the original not the sound. Sound seems to be ok.

Thanks for the reply though. Bad info. on my part!

There are probably two different ways you can capture: via Pinnacle8 and via the TV tuner card. I use an ATI TV card and it has the ability to record what is playing on the TV. In either case, though, you need to tweak your capture settings for the best quality.

You may need to play around and capture a few snippets of video to determine which one best meets your needs. Just as a rule of thumb, the AVI settings create the largest files but are most often the higher(est) quality capture....which is why most people make sure they have another hard drive to store this stuff...

Have fun,

MBN
