software for batch scanning cropping and saving.
my friend has a problem regarding image scanning and cropping and saving.
he usually scans lot of pictures but for scanning them it requires lot of time.
for eg..
putting the image on the scanner
pressing the acquire button which then prompts whether are u ready then press ok
prompting for the filename and format and so on..

now is there any software which would automate the entire process such as..
1.putting the scanner in batch scan mode so that it doesn't prompt each time to close
the lid or press acquire button and name of the file to be saved,so that it continuously goes on scanning files with automatic filename generation and no diaglog boxes to respond to..
2.normally he scans 2 photograps at the same time, now is there any way that
if we specify the separation between the photos(i.e pixel positions between the two photos) in the scanned image(.tif file), the software will cut the image at their separation and save the 2 generated images as 2 separate (.tif files) automatically (without i ever suppling the file name for the files)

any help would be greatly appreciated and by the way scanner is a hp model.

Most scanner software has a “Jobs” box. It will do the split photos as separate jobs without lifting the top and starting over. You just crop each separately and they become separate jobs.

Most scanners have a batch mode. Try the help file for instructions for the specific scanner.

I'm a comic book collector and I scan every issue to save an image of the cover in my database. This can become rather time consuming as you say because I scan at a high resolution and then re-size the images to something more manageable.

This used to take quite a while even using Microsoft Picture-It's batch function. Then I upgraded my ACDSee software to version 6.0 and discovered to my delight that it has an excellent batch tool. It includes a wide variety of image editing tools you can use to create, edit and touch-up your digital images. Use tools such as red-eye reduction, crop, sharpen, blur, and emboss to enhance or correct your images. Image management tools, such as exposure adjustment, convert, resize, rename, and rotate, can be performed on multiple files at the same time.

thanks slipe and mrcoons for your reply.
~~~Most scanners have a batch mode
although i looked for the scanners batch mode in its xp driver i couldn't find anything.
as far as acdsee is concerned i am using ver4.0 but it to my knowledge doesn't provide such features however i would definitely give ver 6.0 a try.
while i was searching on this topic i stumbled upon some batch scanning software such as
vuescan form http://www.hamrick.com/files/vuesca76.exe
autoscan32 from www.visionshape.com
Infothek Scan from www.informatik.com/scan90s.exe
have u guys tried any of this software . i would be delighted to hear your opinion about these programs(or any other programs that will solve my problem.)
I have Vue Scan and use it with my film scanner. It is very good for getting the colors right compared to most scanner drivers. Batch works to the limited degree than my film scanner is capable of.
Have you looked in your scanner software’s help file for “batch”? Mine has some fairly good instructions.
Some scanners have a basic and advanced driver mode. Batch would probably be in the advanced.
i checked my scanners help file but it didn't mention any batch mode
my model is Scanjet 5100c of HP
while i was searching on this topic i found a link which said
that we can specify grid lines on the scanner so that separately placed images
on the scanner can be scanned into different files at the same time.
do u guys have any info as to how this is done..
