trying to fax a text document
i am running Windows XP Pro and have a HERCULES Scan@home 48USB scanner. When i go to scane a text document and try to send this document as a fax ,it comes back with the following reply " Can not fax this document because Microsoft Fax is not installed,Install Microsoft fax and try again". I have emailed Hercules tech. support, but have not gotten any reply as of yet. Someone told me that I need to d/l and install Microsoft Fax,but i can not find the program. Why can't my own Fax program under XP work with this scanner. Also I was told the Windows 95 or 98 has the Microsoft Fax program, can i get a bootable windows 95 or 98 cd and just install the Microsoft Fax program? Hope someone can help.

PS Love this forum,very informative.....

In XP Home you can install Fax Services via Control Panel, Add/remove programs, Windows Components, tick Fax Services,
Does this not exist in XP Pro?

Yup, it's in XP Pro, I have installed it....but you'd have to know where it was. Apparently huggie didn't realize it's in the Windows Components of Add/Remove Progs....and that you have to install it.

sorry guys....new at this stuff. I have gone to c/p under add/remove program, then went to Win Comp section to install fax services, got a window saying that "Please wait while Setup configures the components etc." and then I get a warning window popping up saying "Setup cannot copy the file fxsapi.dll" then it says Ensure that the disc labeled Windows XP Pro CD-ROM is in the drive below, or provide the location where the file can be found.
And then this is what is showing in the dropdown window D:\Win2000\i386

This is as far as i can get....I am lose at this point..
The CD WINDOWS XP PRO is in my D drive at this point.

huggie,
I have the same problem. My WinXp (Home-SP2) simply cannot copy any of the required DLLs when trying to add any windows components. I can browse to the folder on the original CD or on the harddisk. The DLL is there but it cannot be copied.

Have you found the solution for this problem in the meantime?

Regards
