How to put taped video on computer?
Hi there. I've just filmed a little piece of movie magic with a normal camcorder. The ones with the little tapes. Now, I have one of those VCR tape converter things that allow you to put small camcorder tapes into VCR's. So, with that, and the knowledge that I have a VCR hooked up to my Windows XP computer, I was wondering how exactly do I bring recorded tape material onto the computer so that I can edit it?

How are you connecting the VCR to the computer?

It implies you have a video capture card / facility fitted, and if so you should have the software that came with it, to record.

i can only guess you're talking about a 8mm. If the your VCR can play the tape through the converter on your TV, you should then be able to use the software that came with the card and, with your VCR turned on and playing the tape, start recording the signal coming into yer computer. It's kindda general, but that's all I can help you with with all the info we were provided

With your ability to put the tape into the converter to fit a VCR, sounds to me like VHS-C (it should say it somewhere on the camcorder or adapter).

If this is true and you have your VCR hooked up via coax cable to a cable port on the back of your PC, then chances are, you have TV capabilities. If I have this right so far, then put your cassette in, toggle the TV/VCR button on the VCR to VCR, set your TV software to channel 3, and hit play on the VCR. You should be able to view your movie. From here just find the Record button on the TV software (you probably want to go into the setup of the TV software and adjust the capture settings for the best quality and file extension).

Give us a bit more information about the kind of card you're using (TV or capture card) and the model info.

If you have XP, you can also use MovieMaker (I recommend having the MM2 upgrade). When you choose Device, use TV tuner, and it will pull from the VCR tape that's playing.

Hope this helps,

MBN
