Question Question about GAMMA CORRECTION.
I have about three or four image editing programs, and it SEEMS that the images appear brighter with some programs than with others.

Now... IRFANVIEW... which I use as my default viewer, the images were appearing somewhat darker than with the other programs until I put a check next to GAMMA CORRECTION and set the value at 1.25.

Is this the norm.... should you have to adjust the GAMMA for the images to appear the same in different programs?

Thanks in advance

Not normally. The image carries gamma information and it should display the same in all programs.

Thanks..... then I have a small problem on my hands then? Most of the photos that I see a small difference in brightness with are ones taken with my new FUJIFILM-Finepix A-205 digital camera. I know it's not a high end camera.

I have just never really noticed images appearing at different brightness levels in the past. PSP and Ulead PhotoImpact look about the same but before I corrected the gamma slightly they appear a little bit darker in IRFANVIEW.

Thanks

I wouldn’t think the camera would make any difference. Irfanview should be reading the same gamma information as the other programs. I just opened an image from my S4 in both Irfanview and Photoshop and couldn’t see any gamma difference.

If setting Irfanview to 1.25 makes it work on your computer I guess you don’t have a problem, but I have no idea why Irfanview would be darker.
