Hey everyone,

This is my first time posting here. I’m pretty computer literate, however I’m not too up to speed on what goes on inside and the background processes, etc..
I’m an engineer/artist and most of my computing is between ACAD and working with my reference material via digital photos and scanning my art pieces. I recently decided I want to get my computer to capture old videos of my kids and other things and turn them into DVD’s eventually. So far have started with installing a video capture card/TV tuner (see specs below) and this is the first time I have opened a computer to do anything. I got the card in and the computer recognized it and I got all the drivers and got it up and running without a hitch.

Problem: The TV/video software provided is pretty good for viewing and I got both video and audio working pretty nice, but when I tried to capture audio/video and it seems to be “capturing” but when I stopped the session the whole computer just crashed/froze nothing moves and had to hit reset. I installed VIDEOWAVE II/SE and again I get good video and audio. I can capture still images and video segments that run pretty smooth and I’m happy so far, but when I tell the program to capture both audio and video, you can see it working (counter and everything is running), when you end the session I get the little sand dial icon and the computer goes to crash mode again. When I reset the computer again this time I got a message that said I might have had problems with directsound and if I wanted to bypass it. I said no and everything runs fine after this.
Sorry about being so lengthy I just tried all my brain could come up with and I need you experts to rescue my butt. Thanks.

Try capturing to another drive/partition

Thanks for your response, I was able to resolve the problem. I went into the sound settings and it was set to record on SIDR or SRID (whatever that is) and I set it to microphone and switched it on. This did the trick, I hooked my audio into the mic plug. I now can capture Audio and video through all the software that supports this.
I still will need to upgrade my HD and video card to get a smoother ride.
