Cameras
HP makes printers/computers for how long...

Canon makes cameras for how long...

Personally Canon has been making cameras alot longer than HP has. A 5mp HP camera might be as equivalent as a 3mp Canon. Go with the Canon

The softwares shouldn't conflict with one another. You may find features you like from both. If you delete the HP software you may be asking for problems and may render features like the built in card reader useless.
Personally I would use the Canon software for removing pics from camera to hard drive, play with both softwares from there.

jjb is right. I have an A80 and a HP 970cse printer. They work just fine together.

I got a 256mb CF card for the Canon and a USB card reader. I normally use the reader to transfer pics from camera to computer via Windows Explorer (just drag and drop). Canon's software allows you to create folders by shoot date, download date, etc. automatically. Kind of handy, but I don't really use the Canon software that much. But it has some nice features and is easy to use. I usually print from MS PictureIt! or PhotoImpact and somtimes IrfanView and even Kodak EasyShare (I don't have a Kodak camera, but Kodak paper). No conflicts so far.
But the point is, as jjb posted, I use different software for different things because of ease of use, or consistent success or just preference.

I have about 70 types of image programs on my PC and no conflicts.
I don't let them take over all the file associations and set them up so each opens it's own file type it uses by default like MS PictureIt open's .mix, PhotoImpact opens .ufo etc.
I have an image viewer that is set to open all the file types that it supports.
