is there a program to resize many images at once?
i need a program that can resize large amounts of images at once. these images are pics from my digital camera and are the same size, like 10.5x11. i need something easy to use as well! like drag and drop would be good. thanks!

Irfanview. Click "Batch Conversion/Rename" in the File menu, then click the box for advanced options in the window that pops up. Resize them all with the options on that page.

Thumbs Plus is another. Free 30-day trial. It will resize and/or convert from one format to another all selected files in a folder and in all sub-folders--among about a hundred other things it will do.

Irfanview definitely, wonderful little program made all the better for being freeware. Its small compact lightware, here is a list; from the site, of what it can do:

Many supported file formats (too many to list)
Multi language support
Thumbnail/preview option
Slideshow (save slideshow as EXE/SCR or burn it to CD)
Show EXIF/IPTC/Comment text in Slideshow/Fullscreen etc.
Support for Adobe Photoshop Filters
Drag & drop support
Fast directory view (moving through directory)
Batch conversion (with image processing)
Email option
Multimedia player
Print option
Change color depth
Scan (batch scan) support
Cut/crop
IPTC editing
Effects (Sharpen, Blur, Adobe 8BF, Filter Factory, Filters Unlimited, etc.)
Capturing
Extract icons from EXE/DLL/ICLs
Lossless JPG rotation
Many hotkeys
Many command line options
Many PlugIns
Only one EXE-File, no DLLs, no Shareware messages like "I Agree" or "Evaluation expired"
No registry changes without user action/permission!
and many more

blows ya mind, don't it eh!

I suppose thumbs plus has its er! pluses if you'll excuse the pun, but irfanview blows it out of the water. I have used Thumbs plus and it is a competent piece of software but irfanview is defacto.

looks a nice easy interface, I'd love to have a similar program that converts images to frames sizes instead of pixels I.e. 10x8 or 8x10 etc and if you wanted to add a border it would ask how wide insert it and alter the image to still fit a 10x8 or 8x10 etc

I can do all this in Adobe and even with actions its cumbersome, so guys the challenge is... lol!

This does that and is freeware. I’ve played only with the 6.15 beta but it defaults to English and doesn’t seem glitchy. You can put up to a 32 pixel border to any standard crop size.

It defaults to centering the crop but you can adjust it. You would make a custom crop for 8 X 10. It already has one for 10 X 8.

Perfect, Just what I wanted, very neat little program, standalone too, i.e. you don't need to install it. I can see the authors point on borders but thats easy to do with Photoshop. Now I can frame my artwork to my hearts content.

Picasso watch out lol!

Thanks

I just luuuurve the internet

How could you guys forget to mention XnView at http://www.xnview.com/.
XnView is a image viewer and multimedia player. It supports more than 400 file formats (ping, jpeg, targa, tiff, gif, bmp and more). XnView also supports animated gif, multipage tiff, multi-image icon and mpeg, avi, wav, aiff and Quicktime files. XnView also features browser, slideshow, screen capture, thumbnail creation, batch conversion, hexadecimal view, drag and drop, contact sheet, twain and more. It offers the possiblity to apply filters (blur, average, emboss) and effects (lens, waves). XnView supports 43 languages and is available for Linux/FreeBSD/Irix/ Solaris/HP-UX/AIX. And it's free for non-commercial use.
What's really awesome is you can batch ANY of its feature set, including the filters and effects!
Definitely worth a look, huh?

Great suggestions! All three programs [irfanview, xnview, and JPEGCrops] in limited time and usage in past couple days, worked w/o any problems; fast and friendly, w/o a lot of memory/space being tied up. Yea, definately worth a look, and then some!
