Digitrex dsc2100 won't upload pix
Thanks for this much-needed service. I called Apex in Canada and, after over an hour wait, got Jessica Simpson. Somebody's supposed to call me back today, but I am not optomistic.

On W98, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the CD, but, in Photo Manager, after clicking TWAIN, get "no device detected". I am using the mass storage option on the camera before plugging in the USB.

This thing was working great until I reinstalled my Umax scanner.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Thanks, guys, since I wrote this, I have uninstalled the scanner, uninstalled the camera, rebooted, reinstalled the camera. I had to look around the web and find IYUV_32.dll and MSH263.drv. (so if you need them, lemme know)

The freaking thing still won't find the pictures. When I just plug in the camera then turn it on, (WMD mode) the TWAIN will pick up the video camera. But if I turn on the camera, select Mass Storage, <enter> then plug in the USB, I get "No device detected".

As predicted Apex has not called me back, although their website is back up:
http://apexdigitalinc.com in case anybody wants another way to waste time. I've posted 4 times and have yet to get an answer.

I could not find dsc2100 on windrivers.com/digital cameras

Still looking for the answer.

No mass storage device
Yep, thats the one that peed me right off. Don't forget to try irfanview. It doesn't help with the complete enchilada, but it allowed me to at least "see" the pictures on the drive.

Yes, I downloaded irfanview. Nice program-loads quicker than any of my other photo programs, but, alas, can't find the camera.

scanner known fault with dsc2100
The threads above that I sent you to mention the problem of win98 and twain. I'd hate to say it, but if you still can't get any joy you may seriously have to look at moving up in your operating system. Avoid millenium, win2000 if it will run is okay. If youv'e got enough grunt go for xp. Its really a win98 coping with the new technology (usb).
Irfan view worked for me, one of the options was select twain or aquire device. Found under the file dropdown. That was where I found my camera

I am not sure where the info about USB and W98 not being compatible is coming from, but I have to say I beg to differ. Microsoft would love for you to upgrade but I don't think your problem is USB related. I have 2 USB ports with one port going to a 4 port hub. I have 3 devices (webcam, Kodak camera dock and cable modem) running off of USB and W98 SE has never caused me problems with my configuration.

I also want to add- I am not sure what you mean in referance to "mass storage" unless this is a feature of you camera.
Why are you connecting USB after the computer is booted and camera on?
Generally it is not a good practice to make any connections while the computer is running. I am not sure on this but I also believe plug and play or a USB connection will not always be recognized until the computer has been rebooted.(another reason it should be done with computer off).

Just following the destructions.

When I spin the camera dial to the next-to-last setting, the logo comes up, then,
2 choices: WMD or Mass storage. You then chose one and click display/enter on the camera. Then hook up the USB.

I have tried connecting to the USB with the photo program both on and off. Results the same. Connecting the USB does not launch the photo program.

For clarity, this camera worked fine without chosing WMD or Mass storage (the default is WMD). The pictures would come up (Thalia) in thumbnail and I could chose which ones to upload to the computer. I can't get that back.

I really appreciate all you guys trying to help!

I found the following info/review of your camera model
Here
***********************************************

The DSC-2100 has two PC USB connection modes, each of which has its own separate driver for Windows 98, ME, 2000 and XP. In mode one, it's a Windows Driver Model (WDM) device, and you can access it from any program that understands WDM drivers. Pretty much any image editing program that speaks TWAIN, for instance.

One annoying quirk of this camera is that every time you select the PC connect mode you have to tell the camera which sub-mode to use (WDM or Mass Storage), and Mass Storage mode requires three button presses to select. WDM only requires one button press, but if you fail to do that, leave the camera with its what-mode-do-you-want menu up and plug it in, the computer won't know what the heck it is. And a camera hang may be just around the corner.
***********************************************

So you are getting the correct driver installed?

You are doing the one/ three button press correctly?

If you are not familiar with it Irfanview is a good (and free) photo utility. Irfanview "speaks Twain" like mentioned above. See if you can access your camera thru Irfanview or a similar program.
In Irfanview do so by clicking on file
click on select twain source
if your camera is listed under the window that opens click on your camera and then click select
Now click on file again and then click aquire
Your camera program SHOULD open

You will want to do this in the WDM mode. I would also think the USB connection would already have to be made.

Just some info, suggestions and things to try.

Good luck

jjb
