this is a way,
i have s-video out from my video card, i simply patchcord that and the audio out to the input on the VCR and record to a VHS tape, then i have a tv capture card on the puter that records/encodes MPEG 1 from the VCR as a source. it is a little bit of work but it does do a pretty good job of it.

you won't need any additional hardware but will need software, try snagit by techsmith or it's big brother camtasia studio. You can also make flash viewlets with viewlet builder. Lotus do (did?) screen cam

I think the most complete package id camtasia studio by techsmith
