Uploading software for digital camera
Since I got my digital camera (Kodak Easyshare) I've been using the software that comes with it ... however, it seems to cause a few problems with my system, mostly the Kodak Software Updater and the Easyshare thing itself doesn't appear to upload properly: instead of actually showing me the presentation of photo's I have uploaded it just freezes and blinks at me incessantly until I use task manager to close it.

Basically my question is whether there is some efficient and reliable software available that will upload my pictures to my PC with the minimum of fuss.

Anyone got any ideas? Cheers in advance if you have.

You could get a card reader and then use it. That way it will not be using any software program to upload the images.
With a card reader you see the memory card like a drive in my computer. You can then copy or move the images to your hard drive.

I never use supplied software, and I am on my 4th digital camera.

If using Windows ME, 2000 or XP, then the camera should show up as a removeable drive in Windows Explorer.

Copy the image files using Windows Explorer to the location of your choice on the HDD.

Open with the image editor / viewer of your choice (many good free ones are around such as Irfanview)

Or use a card reader instead, but the results should be the same.

If using an earlier operating system, then certainly your mileage may vary.

You have efficient and reliable software and I don't think you will find anything that allows you to transfer pics to your puter with any less fuss. I have used easyshare software flawlessly for over a year and a half. I think working properly you would be happy with it.
If you have had this problem from day one I would say you probally had a bad install.
Kodak has excellent troubleshooting tutorials at their website.
I would try one of two things before giving up on their software.

1. Uninstall the software, reinstall from disk, go to Kodak home page and update easyshare software and also look for updates for your particular model camera.

2. If you happen to have a highspeed internet connection go here:
Kodak Easyshare
Download and install the Easyshare software and you will get the software with latest updates.

But also read on how you are to do the install.
On mine and others it says to install the software and do not hookup the camera till it tells you to or it may not install the right drivers.

Thanks for all the responses here ... much appreciated. I will first off try uninstalling and resinstalling the kodak software and see if it makes any difference. I like the smell of those card readers but they may be a little out of price league right now.

Again, thanks for all your help and advice ... cheers

You can get a 6 in 1 card reader for about $20.00.

Thanks hewee, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling my original Kodak Easyshare software, having made sure that the camera was not connected to the computer at the time.

However, when I tried to reinstall the v2.1 that I originally got with the camera it wouldn't do it; it froze and said it was looking for installed applications: the reference it gave me wa 'FIND_MSSOAP1_DLL.7E6F4399_14C9_4E18_8B5E ... (here it ran out of space to tell me what it was looking for)'. It simply wouldn't go any further than this. It refused to install it again.

I then tried downloading the most recent Easyshare software from the Kodak site and, after doing so, found it did exactoly the same thing that it was doing before. I clicked on the Kodak Easyshare option on my desktop and the main screen sort of came up but the inside was completely white and the grey surrounding area merely blinked at me and refused to load properly. This is exactly what it was doing before.

Could this perchance be realted to the spyware that is bundled into Kodak Easyshare software: Backliteweb? Everytime I run an adaware scan or spybot scan it finds these objects. They are apparently Kodak's updating software but most programs determine them to be spyware/malware and thus attempt to remove them. As a result of this I tried to download the Easyshare v3.2 but without the updating software bundled into it but found that the same thing happened again, it blinked at me and refused to load properly.

The main problem is that I actually want to continue using the Easyshare software: it's muc heasier to do it that way as i use the docking port and it recharges the batteries for me also. If I could find some way of making it work without the updating software constantly niggling away in the background then I would be over the moon. However, at the moment, it's not looking like I will be able to do that.

Has anyone got any ideas? Anything would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Backweb is spyware.

I don't have Kodak Easyshare software so manybe jjb can help you out.

What happens if you do not clean up the spyware? Do it work ok till you delete the spyware?

Did you follow the instructions at Kodaks website for doing an uninstall prior to downloading and doing a new install? I am not sure what the "looking for installed applications" would be about, but possibly the uninstall isn't getting everything.
The next time after you do the uninstall, do a file search for Kodak and delete all references to Kodak (except for where you may have pictures stored of course).

Also when doing the download and install you should close all applications that may be running, including firewall and antivirus software.

Give me the model of your camera and the OS you are using and I will see what I can find to help you further...............................but it will have to wait til later cuz it is Friday and jjb is going out to have a few

I agree about the card reader. I bought one specifically to use on trips. I was able to share photo's immediatly with my co-traveling son via his laptop, was able to make duplicate CD's of photo's and clean out my memory stick for the next round of photo's-all without running my batteries down. And this all without risking loading any files onto another s computer, avoiding being blamed for any future PC problems. No additional drivers of files are required-just plug into USB and go. It reads as an added hard drive.
