(Solved) Hope someone can please help me
I posted in a hardware forum somewhere and they don't udnerstand what I am talking about I think. Since it's related to a digital camrea I came to you people.

All of a sudden when I put a memory card in my Sand Disk card reader the Windows XP camera wizard won't pop up. The little yellow light on the san disk and the hour glass flash for a second but the wizard will not come up anymore. I can go to my computer and open the sand disk drive there to get the photos but I would like to figure out how to get the auto detect working again or what happened. It's an older reader that was originally on 98 but when I got XP the san disk site said to try win 2000 drivers as they may work for some and it has worked for 1 1/2 yrs. until today. Here is what I have done so far and it has not changed anything.

1. Check the USB plug in on the computer, connection seems fine and green light on sand disk is on.

2. Rebooted computer

3. Tried a different card in the reader

4. Shut down, unplugged reader and booted back up. Hardware wizard finds it and install drivers. I had saved the win 2000 drivers on disk in case I needed them again but I have not gone on the site and gotten any fresh drivers yet.

5. Shut down and plugged into one of the USB ports on the front and hardware wizard comes up but still won't auto detect when I insert the card so I think my USB ports are fine as other things are having no problems.

6. Right clicked the Sandisk drive and in properties checked the autoplay tab and for pictures this one was ticked.
copy pictures to a folder on my computer using the Microsoft sanner and camera wizard. I ticked it again and hit apply but didn't solve the problem.

The only thing done to the computer recently was the zone alarm update for the free version, have added no new hardware or changed anything. Have all my windows updates, spyware is clean, maintenance run and all that good stuff. I have no clue what else to try so would like some suggestions on what to check further to get this working again?

I also don't have it where it will always upload right but if I open the nikon software I can then get it to work every time.
But that is because I unchecked the file in the startup from loading at bootup.
I did not want another thing loading that I don't have to have loading and I can start on my own.

So you look in your startup to see if anything got unchecked?

Well, I fixed it. I don't have the sandisk listed in my start up at all to check mark. After spending and hour trying everything stupid me didn't check my CD drive. I turns out nothing would autoplay, bought cd's game cd's nothing so autoplay was busted period and I have no clue how that happened. It didn't use the CD drive yesterday or today so naturally when I used sandisk I thought the sandisk was busted. I know I listened to a music CD Tuesday and I had a restore point for then so I used it. After that it detected the sandisk and installed the hardware and autoplay is now working for everything the right way so when I insert my card the XP camera wizard comes up and puts the pictures right into the folder for me. I have no clue what could have gotten messed up. The only thing I have done recently is the zone alarm update last week maybe and Tuesday I installed spyware guard. Well, at least the mystery is solved and I can go to sleep. Also the person I was talking to on a hardware forum had never used the XP camera and scanner wizard so he didn't know what I was talking about so I taught him something. I like that wizard because my HP office jet all in one has to complex a program for scanning and I don't always need that and the Winows wizard is good for doing just a quick simple scan. Thanks for your suggestion to help me and a have good night, I mean day, Mary!

I lost my camera wizard for using with sandisk after I installed service pack 1 last May. i will not install service pack 2 because of this and other reasons. Sandisk still works on my lap top. When I get home to my desk top PC I will see if I can try to find this check mark in start up.
If I put a CD in, media player wizard appears, so I don't know if this is the same situation or not. I have really missed that wizard and am so sorry I ever installed that damn service pack 1 as that is what took it out.

Mine had nothing to do with SP1 as I had it installed long before this happened. When this happend to me out of the blue I discovered that auto play was not working at all for CD's, or Sandisk so a restore point to a few days before fixed it. I don't know if the autoplay repair wizard will help you but take a look at this link.
